The Raconteurs have been forced to change their name in Australia.

Jack White's new band will be known as The Saboteurs down under to avoid conflict with a jazz band of the same name.

A statement to the Australian press reads: "The Raconteurs name was already taken by a jazz band, to make things easier, and in the spirit of espionage and subversion, we have decided to become The Saboteurs in Australia only."

A UK spokesperson for the band is unavailable to confirm the change.

The band's debut album, 'Broken Boy Soldiers', is out on May 15.

Why not Raconteurs X or Raconteurs US?

Seems crayz to go for a complete change, even for such a small country! What are there, about 60 people and a few kangaroo's there?

Pretty much. It's all kangaroo crossings and koalas killing their brains munching eucalyptus leaves. I'm surprised they even bothered releasing the album here since we won't bend to their ways.

Seriously, though, I find it a little strange that the jazz band didn't accept the no doubt healthy wad of cash that would have been thrown their way to change their name. It's not like they would be raking it in otherwise, and they'd still get a whole lot of publicity from it
