Bad-this is terrible, only should music from a band be heard on a record, not rehashed to commercialization. 8%  8%  [ 1 ]

Just saw a set of 3 Chevy spots featuring the Killers'-Jenny was a friend of mine in it. Most of you don't like the band, but I dig them. Sad, although I can't blame them.

I dige 'em...their album might make my shmoo poll, but it ain't like they're sellingtons of records. Take the fucking money and run...straight to the Hookers, Blow and parties with midgets with ashtrays strapped to their heads.

(Maybe this doesn't apply to the Killers, per se, but...) Most of the bands we like tour for months on end driving themselves to shitty venues in cargo vans, sleeping on floors, and overall barely make ends meet. I say, as long as it doesn't compromise your music, make the $ whereever you can.

Whoring yourself out, though, that's another thing...

It always hurts me a little. I do understand it's a good way for the band to make money but it's still proof that the advertising execs know about bands I don't think they should. The worst ever for me was hearing The Legendary Shack Shakers on a Geico commercial.

Doesn't bother me. Goes with the territory of being on a major label.

I'd be more weirded out if a buncha no-good careerists like the Killers didn't shill for a corporation.

Well, we did it. Endochine's song "Secret" was featured in a $20M "Back To School" campaign this fall for Arizona Jeans after an advertising guy from Chicago saw them at SXSW and asked for a copy of the record.

It was a pretty cool commercial (as far as that goes) and it allowed the guys to pay their rent back home while they toured through the fall. Az jeans didn't use the band's name in the commercial, but, it still helped us sell some records and bring some people out to shows.

With the money the band made off of that commercial, they were able to buy their first ever "crappy" van, some new gear, pay off some outstanding warrants (no shit), take their girlfriend out to dinner for the first time ever, go to the dentist (again, for the first time in 10 years) and sort of "catch up" in life where they had been sacrificing.

It ain't easy being a "boot-strap" band, and it can be more of a "job" than a "life" most of the time -- and sometimes, some stupid commercial money goes a long way towards keeping you on the path of following your dream.

So, I don't have any problem with songs being used in commercials - besides, *sometimes*, these ad execs are a bit cooler than we might give them credit for.

That said, something like Bon Jovi's "personal endorsement" of a battery is somewhat of another story. . .
