i know this isn't a fashion forum but we've done this sort of thread enough. i want to know how many people are against brown and black being worn together. i've been doing it a lot lately and i think it's cute.. i just know if i were to wear these outfits to school in the afternoon some certain friends of mine would call me out as i've seen them do others many times before.
i don't really care, because the outfit i'm wearing (black t-rex shirt with brownish/plaidish skirt and black heels) i'm going to wear tonight regardless.
just wondering if opinions have shifted in recent years. i still get shit for wearing white heels after labor day.

if i ever wear brown and black i try to balance it out anyways, because it makes me feel like i match a little better. hence the black shoes with the black shirt.

you're a little punk rock girl (take no offense---its a complement) so you can get away with a lot of fashion excesses. not that you are now, but its nice to know I suppose.

i see a dark brown with black as a faux pas, but that's just me and i have some very odd fashion quirks. the bigger issue is black and navy blue. that just isn't right. i don't understand why people think they can get away with it.

navy and black always looked funny, because sometimes its so difficult to determine the difference between the two colors, unless they're worn together. then it looks weird.
good thing i own nothing navy. except an of montreal shirt. oh and a ween shirt.
shit.

Your outfit sounds cute.

Black and brown is becoming more acceptable, but really, if you have confidence and put them together nicely, you can pull it off no matter what's "in".

Admittedly, I'm still a bit self conscience when I do it, but I was the chick wearing black leggings and a gigantic t-shirt with flamingos printed on it in middle school, so what the hell am I worried about now?

id rather be called that than an indie rock girl. no offense was taken at all, i am actually a bit flattered.

i want to make this sound the least lesbian as possible, but i always thought grungy and punk looking girls were so pretty.
i guess if i said hot, that would make it sound lesbian? but hey, who cares. lesbians are awesome anyways.

i actually just got the skirt today so i'm eager to wear it. it was 9 dollars at h&m.

oh yeah, i never thought of this. but my hair is brown, and i never considered my head not matching my attire.
i'll think of it that way from now on, if anyone ever tries to tell me i don't match.

no, I get what you mean. Some of those chicks are pretty hot. I also used to think that a lot of hippy chicks were hot (the non-smelly, suburban hippy chicks mind you, not the broad selling me veggie burritos and Sierra Nevada at Phish shows)

I like being a red head so a red head is what I'll be for a while and I've not once thought about that. If that were really an issue, I'd be screwed.

I'm so happy skirt weather is back. I wore a favorite dress today and felt pretty.

My girlfriend who is a textile and clothing design major would kill me for this answer, but I see nothing wrong with brown and black together. If a rock star can be photographed in an outfit with those two colors, then I can wear it.
As for the Navy Blue and Black debate. I have a pair of dress pants that are essentially a Navy/Black twill. I usually wear a light blue dress shirt with them if it is warm and a navy blue sweater with them if it is cold. It certainly doesn't meet the high fashion category, but it matches and doesn't seem too odd.
I'd say I'd only find it odd if someone was wearing a navy blue t-shirt with black pants and possibly vice versa.

I think your outfit sounds fine. Though I also have the fashion sense of a gnat. I usually wear what's clean, or at least not too dirty. And hope it matches. I did, however, see a girl the other day wearing a black casual-looking dress (maybe just below her knees) with white socks and brown shoes. That was bad.

yeah i agree with loog...wear what you want - who cares what people think. all that matters is that you like it.
