Doesn't someone around here despise this guy? Cotton? Stu?

Anyway, I read this in the latest Rolling Stone, and thought some might enjoy it.

And yes, "HAHA You read Rolling Stone" is an acceptable response from honkies.

I dont like the guy, but he has never failed a drug test, while Palmeiro, et al. have. Now, BB likely has been off the juice for two years ago (see: injuries and rapidly diminishin production) but still. No proof yet.

That was an amusing commentary but it still uses the "c'mon you're just fooling yourself if you don't think all guys are assholes" method of debate. It's rationalization used to excuse behavior.

I'd wager there's been lots of nice guys in baseball.

What about Bonds' testimony that he used Teh Cream and Teh Clear, but he didn't know they were steroids? Yes, I know it's grand jury testimony that's supposed to be sealed, but I really don't think it was just made up out of thin air.

Hey, I agree he probably used, but hes tested clean (and you KNOW hes been tested) since testing has been implemented. He has been very effectively tried in the court of public opinion, however, and that is just as good as a positive test.

So you just ignore that he did steroids before MLB took its head out of its ass and tested?

I've expressed that sentiment before. It's really just based on his writing on that old Audiogalaxy site, which was that of a pretentious jagoff. Haven't read anything since then...until this here article. It wasn't pretentious. It was okay. But that cover of "Black Sheep Boy" still sucks.

Ignoring the whole innocent until proven guilty thing for the moment, what do you want us to do?

What's your burden of proof?

For me, his admitted use, no matter how "unknowingly" is plenty. Packing on 40 lbs. of muscle as he approached forty years old doesn't help much either.

I don't need a jury to tell me OJ Simpson murdered his wife.

You're not ignoring it. Skip that part and answer my question.

I wholeheartedly believe that even if BB tested positive, MLB wouldn't say so because doing so would be an indictment that baseball has/d slipped into a drug-fueled party. Think of the immense black eye mlb would get. #1 the "I told you so" factor would be unbearable, #2 a high-profile star that even people outside of baseball know, testing positive would be detrimental to the game. Let's face it, the only reason this debate rages on is due to the fact that he hasn't tested positive to the public. As long as he hasn't, whatever opinion you may or may not have is just public opinion. #3 You might as well cancel the season--why? Because the immense focus on steroids and BB would be out of hand. Right now ESPN really is the only place dedicated to BB expose...test positive, and every station and gov't official will be barking up the baseball tree.

this is my response. i don't get anyone who defends bonds. he is singlehandedly making the records books even more illegitimate. hate the game, not the player, i guess, but i hate the game just as much. disgusting that selig and the rest of the baseball hierarchy let the longball take over in favor of economic interests rather than historical integrity.

bonds is a scumbag, positive test results or not. he cheated and the message mlb sends is that that's okay as long it gets fans back in the seats following the strike.

Bonds used steroids. Any arguement is just stupid. We'll never see a pic of Bonds with a needle hanging out his ass . Whether he cheated or not is up for arguement. It's not just baseball that's to fault here. When it comes down to it, it's the fans fault. Some of us got caught up in the fun, some were naive, and some of us just didn't want to admit, but we should have put our collective foot down a long time ago. Same with media. Innocent till proven guilty is for the courts. Any moralist who wants to take that approach is being stubborn for the sake of it. Following that logic, Al Capone was just a tax evader and any notion otherwise is slander.

I find it fascinating that the dude has zero home runs this year and has flied out to the warning track like a bajillion times. He's also posed as if to say "I got all uh that un!" about 50% of the time on said warning track flyouts

BB apparently broke the law through both his possession/use of steroids and perjury. But is there evidence he was using AFTER roids were declared a banned substance by MLB?

As for ruining the game, according to the book he was reacting to others who made a mockery of it (and him by making his once best in the game numbers seem ho hum). If McGwire and Sosa hadn't roided up and become so celebrated by both the fans and MLB, BB probably never starts. Do y'all blame McGwire as much? If not, why not?

Bonds, McGwire, Sosa, Giambi, Caminiti, Canseco, Palmeiro and the rest of 'em that used roids are all equally guilty of assholism.

I do enjoy the fact that everyone laughed at Canseco when he threatened to write a tell-all book. The fucker ended up being the catalyst for cleaning up baseball. I bet Bud wishes somebody would have gave him that Minor league contract now.
