In light of recent events, 2 things:

1. I am not going to install a killfile feature. The only reason free speech is worth having is that sometimes you're compelled to listen to speech that irratates you, or that you disagree with. Some people are obviously of the opinion that they can perfectly label those speakers on obner who benefit their understanding, and those who do not. These people have the option (however technically difficult it may be at any given time) to employ whatever client-side solution they deem appropriate. Since I don't think that killfiling generally benefits the dialogue here, I will not make it any easier than that.

2. Threads whose sole purpose is namecalling will be locked and/or deleted as moderators see fit, unless they are relegated to the street teaming forum or someplace else no one cares about. I realize there's a grey area here, but we're just going to have to go with an "I know it when I see it" policy. OPA's thread is an excellent example. We will be judicious in our enforcement, and any complaints can be directed at me via PM or whatever.

Might I also suggest a one week ban for any one who posts "+1" or starts a parody thread.

Also, overmoderation and deleting/locking of threads really tends to piss me off on some of the other boards I'm on. For example, the 2+2.com forums and Soxtalk forums are just teeming with guys deleting threads left and right. It pretty much sucks.

This is why I like the ignore list feature so much, because it allows me to be my own moderator (of sorts).

I think this one should still be good, other than the fact that it's music related, and hence of no interest to the board.

can I ask what started this whole thing? I mean I read th elocked thread, but I feel like I missed some high drama.

There's obviously some actual bad blood there, and I just don't think new threads in the Rock/Pop forum should be the outlet for that. If people disagree, I'm happy to relax or abolish the policy.

I think we should chip in for two airline tickets and sponsor a cage match between the two.
