so this coming thursday is one of my company's bi-monthly organization-wide parties, where everybody just kind of hangs out in the office and drinks and eats, all set to dj-provided music. no, i'm not exaggerating, we really do this. the whole office. it would be my second one since joining in december and i had a great time last time. the same night, elbow is performing elsewhere in the city, whom i have never seen, and who i can safely say i would absolutely love to. as an extra bonus, the walkmen are playing a free show several blocks away from my office.

do i go to see elbow and revel in sheer bliss, go see the walkmen for free and revel in corporate sponsorship, or stay at work and drunkenly mingle with my higher ups?

just further proof that while most of my life involves next to nothing, when there is something to do, there's lots of them. at once.

Go see Elbow. It sounds like you'll enjoy that the most and, while spending extra time at the office may (possibly) win you some brownie points, you're not obligated to stay.

If I could swing it, I would go to the party and The Walkmen for a bit. I'd most likely lean toward The Walkmen, since I'd rather go to a show then hang out with the people I work with, but that party sounds better than anything I have had that was work related.

With my budget, I'd say free company party, and eat (+drink) enough for three people.

I'm an Elbow girl, so I say go see them after reaping the benefits of the company party food/drinks. You will not be disappointed.

Yeah, THEN go to The Walkmen nice and drunk (maybe take a bat toke on the way)

UPDATE: elbow ticket = purchased.

i should have mentioned that i have seen the walkmen before, and they do indeed reign (although the performance i saw got kind of tired as the night wore on), and who knows when elbow will even be touring the country again, so with the blessing of a coworker i have decided to attend that particular event.

plus i plan on meeting up with whoever's left at the office to go to the company's bar of choice afterwards, so all could work out.

there's a lot of drinking where i work.

If you've already bought the ticket, go see Elbow for sure. Otherwise you're throwing away money. Even though the food and drinks are free, you'll still be paying for them in a way.

[edit]: just finished reading the rest of your last post and approve of your decision.

i just got home from the evening and i can say that i without a doubt made the right decision.

seeing elbow in concert after a 3 year wait produced a "holy shit i can't believe i get to see this" moment that has only been produced twice before (both by incredible british bands radiohead and doves) and it was an all around great time.

apparently i didn't miss much at the work party, although people didn't believe i would actually come back after promising so during the day.

AND AND AND my company's (apparently) new p.r. guy who hasn't started yet and who came to the party is from england, has worked on p.r. for the spice girls and depeche mode, and knows blur personally (i think he said they went to college together). new coolest guy at the place.
