What, with the rise of the internet/cyberspace... the whole living inside a computer concept takes on a whole new meaning, especially with internet predators, hackers, viruses, and the like.

With a new script, it would be a natural.
Thoughts?

I have a standing boycott on all hollywood remakes of movies that do not need to be remade. Probably 85% of all hollywood films these days are either sequels or remakes. I would rather they focus on bringing me a new idea than rehashing an old one, and probably fucking up a classic. The movie is just fine as-is.

It is fine, as is.
But this would be a new take on it.
It DOES need to be remade, as it could have a lot to say about the current Electronic Society and the World Wide Web. If done right, of course. No... this is a remake that is actually viable and relevant... and a more adult kind of movie. I'm thinking Aranofsky or Jarmusch. Burton if you want it to be a more commercial affair.

I was thinking The Day The Earth Stood Still. But, I haven't seen it in a long while.

Tron could be redone. Do you think they would do it in some Geiger gothic ala Matrix style?

yeah I'm with you 100%. I hate remakes with a passion.

Todd sorry, but Tron does NOT need to be remade. Hell I just watched this on cable a couple weeks ago. I hadn't seen it in years.

It's fine the way it is.

Remakes of films are for studio execs and writers who have no creativity whatsoever.

Oh and don't get me started with the whole tv show made into movie trend. Absolutely ridiculous.

There was a sequel in computer game form. I think it would be in keeping with your rationale to say that it should not only be remade, but remade in a new, cutting edge medium based on the cutting edge character of the film. In which case, wish granted.

There are so many cool sci-fi stories with similar details that are better than the Tron plot. Why not make a movie out of something new?

I am very disappointed with you all.
This, IMO is a story/concept that can be easily adapted to speak to a society that has been drastically changed by computers.
So much resonance.
So much potential.

I AM A VISIONARY!!!!
NONE OF YOU MERE MORTALS CAN COMPREHEND MY VISION!!!

um... yeah... or something like that.

I'm sorry Todd, but it's hard for me to envision somebody making a better version of a movie I already consider to be damn near perfect

I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of Fantastic Voyage- you know, the one w/ Raquel Welch (sp?) and __________? Where they get injected into a body?

The special effects guys could have a field day with this one.

Just hope the guy whose body they're in isn't gay.
