God it fucking hurts. I'm afraid to take off my shoe because the swelling that is even now pushing my toes together is only going to get worse...

Most of the threads on the front page are boring so I started my own.

...and this fresh on the heels of Old K's "I think my thumb is dying" thread.

Radcliffe's rolling in his grave.

On a fucking baseboard??? You're not Richard's son. I want a story about nailguns, propane torches, or at the very least a run-away framing hammer goddammit.

...though I've doen the same. Kicked a metal bedframe in the dark once, pondered suicide.

In 1907, due to failing health, Jack Daniel gave the distillery to his nephew. Jack later died from blood poisoning in 1911. The infection allegedly set up originally in a toe, which Daniel injured in kicking his safe in anger when he couldn't get it open early one morning at work — he had always had trouble remembering the combination. This incident was the subject of a marketing poster used on the London Underground in January 2006, with the line "Moral: Never go to work early."

No, the actual moral is "Yail, go drink some Jack Daniel's"

I've sprained my right pinkie, sliced my right index finger and have a permanent pencil stab mark under my right middle finger. It's not easy being my right hand.

You have likely broken that toe, if it's been going on all day.

The story would have been better if the toe had broken after repeatedly connecting with someone's torso or skull.

Ha ha! I see what you did there. "Broken toe", "fresh on the heels"... that (er, I mean DAT) is some seriously good humor.

But, about this "grave" thing...?

worst leg injury I ever had:

8 years old. I ran up and flipped the crossbar on the slide at my elementary school, but I wasn't quite straight when I came down. My ankle lodged directly in between the crossbar and the slide, as the left side of the crossbar was missing the fastening bolt. As the momentum of the slide was still carrying me down, the grip tightened like a vice, crushing my ankle and jerking me off the slide. I was dangling upside down for a good 10 minutes, but thank god the grip held because otherwise I would've certainly died.

Yeah thanks for the analysis Doctor. Now stick to your specialty and tell me how to shut down the pain center in my brain. :D

Ha! I'll send you a magnetic field device to allieviate your suffering. Either that or go smoke some pot. You need something to stimulate those opioid receptors in the cingulate cortex.

Update: The area on the toe between the nail and the first knuckle is purple/black.

Jesus. Should I soak it in ice water? Tape it to a neighboring toe?

The swelling isnt nearly as bad as I thought it was gonna be.

Worst injuries ever. I've fractured the toe next to my big toe twice and broken my pinky finger before.

Amazing how a small appendage going down can be so incapacitating.

The only thing you can do is to ice it down and to tape it to the toe next to it. That's all the doctor did to me the first time I did it and I did that to it myself the next time.

You would know if it's really fucked but chances are you just fractured it. Just use the toe next to it as a splint.

Sorry dude. I screwed mine the last time going down the Broad river in Athens shitfaced on a Sunday afternoon. I was just floating in the water sans float or boat and I smashed it on a rock on the river floor.

I've got one on the inner side of my right wrist, immediately below the base of my thumb. Got it in 7th grade Spanish class. The school nurse told me it would be permanent, and she was right. At least she has been for the 26 years since it happened. I'm still holding out hope that it's just healing verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry slowly.
