...where I show you just how shitty my taste in music used to be.

Going through some stuff in my room at my parents house I find the boxes where I stored all my old cassette tapes from high school up until about 5,6 years ago. There are quite a number of mix tapes. Some of them have lists but a lot don't. Here goes....

Title: Tara I
I'm not sure who Tara is. I think it's the friend of an old girlfriend. Maybe I made a tape off of her cd's a while ago.

Tape: Fuji ZII 90MinCro2

Tracklist:
Side A
1.Some kind of Celtic/Pogues romp up. Its a song about a guy named Johnny McGirk
2. Skydiggers - ? -I still like the skydiggers.
3.They Might Be Giants - Mr. Horrible (?)
4.Gretzky Rocks - The Pursuit of Happiness -ahhhh Canadiana

5. TMBG - Birdhouse in your Soul - (apparently Tara had some TMBG cds)
6. Violent Femmes - Jesus walking the Water
7. dunno - the chorus goes "It's too cold, it's too late, it's too faaaaarrrrrrrrrr." acoustic strumming ditty type music.

8. Rheostatics - Introducing Happiness
9. ??? - Hey Organ Grinder - another fun type acoustic song that sounds like it could be sung by a busker.
10. Barenaked Ladies. -Old Apartment - of course, some BNL. :(
11. ??? - Lucy - crap
12. Blue Rodeo - a live song ?I wonder what am i doing here?

This thread is a dud but I'm so bored I'm gonna keep going.

13. ??? - I Once Was a Rich Man - some hillbilly rockabilly crap maybe a guy named Mike Plume.
14. ???-??? some bluegrass song about a bear whose "never been cornered, never been treed. Some folks say he's a lot like me" No good.
15. ??? - ??? sounds like 90s canadian alt rock stuff. Sandbox maybe?? Remember them?>?

END OF SIDE A.

1. Captain Tractor - The Jolly Roger - oh I remember this song now. Captain Tractor is some band from Edmonton who plays celtic acoustic type stuff. Now that I hear this song I remember Tara. I had gf who was from Edmonton and I must've made this tape ather friends house.

2. ???- ??? more acoustic rockabilly strumming stuff. This tape really blows. Boring. There isn't even any really bad stuff on it to mock.

3. ?????? I GIVE UP I'M MOVING ONTO SOMETHING WITH SOME HAIR METAL ON IT.
3.

Why did you do that in so many different posts?

"Someone Keeps Moving My Chair" is the name of that song.

And now, you have 200 posts, not just 197 or something lame like that!

I used to have some Mike Plume stuff that wasn't too bad. Course, it was so good I no longer have it and have no idea where it went. But I remember like some Mike Plume.

Mike Plume is pretty okay, actually. Basic rock n roll with a country twang. I just saw him perform with the Corb Lund Band. Corb Lund used to be in the Smalls, which is a classic canadian indie punk/rock band. Now, like a lot of older indie rock guys Corb has turned to country.

So my point here, Kung Fu and all you other lovers of Drive By Truckers, is that you should take the time to check out the Corb Lund Band. Instead of country rock songs about the south you get country rock songs about alberta and oil fields.

My wife and family would love that. My father-in-law works out in the oil fields of Alberta.

It's not all about the oil fields but with songs called Roughest Neck Around and Short Native Grasses (Prairies of Alberta) there's a few references to Alberta. I was never a huge fan of the album, just thought it was okay but the live show kicked ass. The crowd was nutso on a wednesday night in Vancouver. It's the first live i've ever been to in Vancity where a scrap broke out in the audience. Seriously drunk people who must've moved there from Calgary. It was real fun.

Also, not that this is a good thing in the eyes of this board but I know he's got a video on CMT too.

I wouldn't call a tape with The Pursuit Of Happiness, They Might Be Giants and Violent Femmes on it a product of shitty taste. Nope.

THE IRISH ROVER

In the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and six
We set sail from the coal quay of Cork
And we were sailin' away with a cargo of bricks
For the grand city hall in New York
We'd and elegant craft, it was rigged fore and aft
And oh, how the trade winds drove her
She had twenty three masts, and she stood several blasts
And they called her the Irish Rover.

Chorus: Fare thee well, my pretty little girl, I must sail away
Fare thee well, my pretty little girl, I must sail away.

There was Barney McGee from the Banks of the Leigh
There was Hogan from County Tyrone
There was Johnny McGirk who was scared stiff of work
And a chap from West Meade named Malone
There was slugger O'Toole who was drunk as a rule
And fighting Bill Tracy from Dover
And your man, Mick McCann, from the Banks of the Bann
Was the skipper on the Irish Rover.

We had one million bags of the best Sligo rags
We had two million barrels of bone
We had three million bales of old nanny goat tails
We had four million barrels of stone
We had five million hogs and six million dogs
And seven million barrels of porter
We had eight million sides of old blind horses hides
In the hold of the Irish Rover.

We had sailed seven years when the measles broke out
And the ship lost her way in the fog
And the whole of the crew was reduced down to two
'Twas meself and the captain's old dog
Then the ship struck a rock! Oh, Lord, what a shock!
And nearly tumbled over
Turned nine times around and the poor old dog was drowned
I'm the last of the Irish Rover.

Open Arms rules, but 2 Bryan Adams tunes ? Actually 18 Bryan Adams songs wouldn't be as bad as Bad English. Ghey!

Fly to the Angels wasnt so bad in its time.

Homeward Bound – Simon & Garfunkel
100 Miles – Bad Company
The Way it Is – Bruce Hornsby and the Range
The Whole of the Moon – Waterboys
Nightswimming – REM
Let Love Rule – Lenny Kravitz
Last to Know – Spirit of the West
Dollar Bill – Screaming Trees
Seasons – Chris Cornell
Fiddler’s Green – Tragically Hip

Side B:
Man on the Moon – REM
Down on the Corner – CCR
Desperado – Eagles
Conviction of the Heart – Kenny Loggins
Mandolin Rain – Bruce Hornsby
Hallelujah Jordan – Hothouse Flowers
This & That – Michael Penn
I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking for – U2
Turn You Inside Out – REM
Little Bones – Tragically Hip

This tape was obviously made when I really liked the Singles soundtrack, The Hip’s Road Apples and Bruce Hornsby and the Range(!?!). I thought this one was gonna redeem me a little bit after the Kinda Slow fiasco but I kinda doubt it.

I agree. There are some mint tunes on that mix. It's just not too consistent. But it's one of the better mixes i found. I found mixes with some Sarah McLachlan on it. shudder

I'm an unapologetic Westerberg fan, and I like "No Myth", but if you subjected me to "Desperado" I would have no other choice but to shit in your pillowcases.

Yeah, I like Pusuit Of Happiness, too. If I did a compilation with my 25 favorite songs on it, their song Beautiful White would be on it.

I'm gonna play it right now. Amazing how that works, iddenit?

Some GREAT songs on this tape, mixed with some "what the hell?" picks. Keep them coming, I wish I had the mixed tapes from when I was a youth.
