Was listening to Clutch's Blast Tyrant today and had visions of BustyDerrisBloorSquirrgle banging their respective heads and air guitaring while the good Senator throws an empty keg through the nearest available window. I'm talking about stuff that is meant to be turned to 11 at all times. Blues and/or country influence abounds, but the violence quotient is a bit more obvious than DBT's harder stuff. Whay say ye?

Black Sabbath - The originals and still champions.
AC/DC - More hard rock than metal, but dudes have always been about excess.
Clutch - As stated above. Fallon and company capture the Sabbath ethos without trying too hard (looking at you, Corrosion of Conformity).
Sevendust - Most nu-metal won't qualify, but their first two albums are pretty ace. Bonus points for ATL origins.
Buckcherry - See AC/DC. Josh Todd is one of the best rock vocalists (barely) alive.

Feel free to speak at these and add your own.

Damn. I really like that Clutch s/t, but I've never taken it past that album, which I've worn out at least twice.

They get a LOT more bluesy. Elephant Riders is worth your time and on the Wood.

I'm 100% behind you on Buckcherry and AC/DC, particularly Bon Scott era. Truly great stuff. One band I've just never been able to get into, save for a few songs, is Black Sabbath. Despite this I clearly must hear Clutch sometime.

Fu Manchu

They make the DBT's sound like little pansies.

Also Iron Monkey. As filthy and ugly as music can ever get.

How is the latest Buckcherry? I keep seeing it in Tower, picking it up then putting it back down. Is it gettable?

Gettable IMHO but not as good as the first. More feedback from me here. Flying Rabbit was pretty meh about it.

I'm suspecting LooGAR's definition of jail is subtler than this. He seems to define it more as unsettling boozer music by intelligent but hard-lived people. Not necessarily defined as loud rawkkiss, sometimes, but not necessarily. More like, people who have LIVED their damn lives so you can't tell them shit, Shirley.

Like Richard Thompson could be jail, even. But Poison, not so much.

Protoypical jail: Levon Helm
not jail: David Gilmour

Thanks pal, I knew I could count on ya!

Count me among those who just don't lurv Sabbath. AC/DC and Buckcherry are pretty jail, though. Particularly stuff like "Shoot to Thrill" and whatever Buckcherry's song about loving cocaine is called.

Thanks for the clarification, Phil. While Clutch's sound is much more Sabbath-y, I'd still say it fits everything in your definition. Can't believe there are anything but those type of folks in Hagerstown, MD!

Back In Black is as mongerous as it comes, I think. Though I don't care for much AC/DC after that, Back In Black is about the biggest fuck you in the face of death ever recorded.

"Have a Drink on Me" makes me laugh everytime I hear it. I still can't believe they recorded that.

Judas Priest, both for the jail these guys talk about, and the jail that we'd prefer not to talk about.

That Gunfighter album I electronically sent you should qualify as Jail Hard Rock, if not Metal. I don't know if I ever got your take on that one.

only their later albums though. their first couple kind of fall into the punk category more than metal.

Hell yes. Metal or no, "Dirty Sanchez" is the balls.
