And no, I am not kidding.

I guess this happened yesterday. My mom just told me that she was halfway through crossing the street waiting on a median, on the curb. An SUV came through and made a left turn in a hurry and went up on the curb and hit her. She was facing away from the truck sort of. The grill hit her in the face concentrated around the right eye(she's a really short woman).

She is on morphine, has broken face bones, a broken Tibia, a concussion, some sort of hemmoraging in her brain, but is awake and alert for now.

If you're praying types, add this to your list please.

Man, Joe, I'm really sorry. Did the jackass stop after he hit her?

I am not sure. We don't know anything about the driver (criminal charges, intoxication levels, etc.)

I just don't get it. How in the world do you miss a person standing on the curb, let alone drive up onto the curb when making a left turn?

A prayer for your aunt and your family.

that's brutal. i've been hit by a couple of cars in my life but nothing more than a hip that hurt like shit for a couple months. the positive in situations like this is that it could always be worse.

I never had head injuries the couple times I got hit or in the motorcyle flip. The hemmoraging part sounds very worrisome.

That's insane. Yet another story to add to my reasons for not trusting cars as a pedestrian and always being extra-careful.

I am so sorry for you and your family.
She will be kept in my prayers as well.

Totally insane.

It's not like she was even jaywalking or anything.

I've had a motorist honk and swear at me as I walked along the SIDEWALK because they were trying to pull out of a parking lot. I've also had one back out of a parking lot on to the sidewalk without even looking and nearly hit me.

It's like people think they're playing a frickin' video game or something.

that sucks. hope she's better soon.

people drive like maniacs. i pulled out of my street the other day and got faced with a truck coming towards me in MY lane, trying to pass a car when there was a double yellow line.

My thoughts are with her, Joe.

To add to the "jackass driver" stories, someone intentionally ran over my brother's girlfriend (who was on a bicycle) a few weekends back because she wouldn't get out of the way so he could make an illegal turn on red. Luckily she managed to escape with only a few broken toes and a totaled bike, but the guy actually tried to drive off before someone grabbed him and pulled him from the truck.

Accidents happen. You may lose control of the wheel on your way to work tomorrow and run over an old lady - are you suddenly a huge asshole who doesn't give a fuck about anyone? I don't see anywhere that says the person driving the car got out and pointed and laughed at Hegel-Oh's aunt....none of us know how the driver reacted.
