You all know me.
You know that I'm one of those guys that becomes obsessed with whatever is playing on my stereo at that exact moment. It's just one of my loveable quirks.

Well, what's playing right now is Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me and it's just beautiful. It also makes me realize that we don't talk about these guys very often. And we should

I have to say that "The Catch" contains some of my favorite lyrics ever. And, well, [overemotive scene from a teen flick]I just LOVE these guys!!![/overemotive scene from a teen flick]

It completely brings me back to H.S. and college -- and in a good way. Fricking great songwriter.

If this thread does nothing else but get you to act on that statement, it has done its job.

and sometimes we would spend the night
just rolling about on the floor
and even though it felt soft at the time
I always used to wake up sore

The Cure = My favorite band in High School and one of my all time favorite bands.

I especially love:

+ Kiss Me...
+ Disintegration
+ Standing on a Beach

"How Beautiful You Are" is amazing
...and so are

"Like Cockatoos"
"Icing Sugar" (aren't the toms wicked on this one?)
"Just Like Heaven" (obviously)
"The Perfect Girl"
"The Snakepit"
I can barely listen to "One More Time" and "A Thousand Hours" without crying.

(Not the biggest fan of "Torture" or "Fight"... as my friend once put it, Robert Smith doesn't do 'angry' very well: (in a cute British accent): "I want to smash you to little pieces!")

Simon Gallup = one of my favorite bass players EVER.
When I had an acoustic Iin H.S. I would pretty much just sit there and play Cure bass lines.

Been a fan since 1979. Still, I'm worn out on talking about them.
Several dozen of my favorite songs over the years, but a deeply mediocre 2004 release.

X3 offers a lot of sampling and album cover possibilties. "They want to cure us, but I say, 'We ARE the Cure'"; street demonstrations with lots of signs reading "Say NO to the Cure".

My wife thinks Bob Smith sucks. But she sure does love Famke.

He was the bass player on my fantasy team/band we did a while back.

Smith has great lyrics, too. This one from the classic b-side "Finance Committee, Subcommittee on International Trade Hearing on S.J. Res. 47, Disapproving Waiver of Jackson-Vanik Freedom of Emigration Requirements for Vietnam "

Senator Grassley, I am concerned/
that the President's recent waiver of freedom/
of emigration requirements for Vietnam/
in order for U.S. taxpayer guarantees and credits/
to go towards projects in Vietnam/
does not "assure the continued dedication/
of the United States to fundamental human rights"

This is literally how I started playing guitar. Fascination Street and A Forest were my first 2 songs...

Coincidentally, "Why Can't I Be You" was played at the gym yesterday. It's even worse than I remember it, with those synth horns and strings and Smith's whiny-ass voice. Fit right in with all the other shit that gets played at a gym.

My take on the Cure: They reached their peak with The Head On the Door, but still put out some good stuff after that. Kiss Me x 3 was a disappointment to me when it came out and parts of it really bore me.
