without a doubt the best performance i've seen from dulli since the whigs broke up. the backing band sounded better than usual and they were clearly in a fired up mood with the show being their last on the current leg of the tour.

They played between 2 and 2 1/2 hours in total. Lanegan joined the band for the encore playing a gutter twins song plus some others. They surprisingly played about half of Gentleman which was great and as usual mixed in covers including Marvin Gaye, Steve Miller Band, Argent, Leadbelly and others that are slipping my memory.

All in all a great show. The openers were pretty good too. I ended up eating the extra ticket as I had a work dinner first and it would have been hard to plan a meet up with anyone. I didn't see puma's post until this morning. You didn't go did you? it wasn't sold out.

My only complaint was the $20 parking at avalon....that's a little ridiculous but I got over it. If i'd known they were going to charge that i'd dropped my car off at home and just taken a cab.

no i didn't go - had dinner with a friend, stopped by the tiki ti for a drink then called it a night. had a really long day at work and i was on the fence about driving by the avalon to see if it was sold out but decided that since i'll be going out tonight, i'll be good and go home early.

duuuuuuuuuude $20 for parking?! i never pay for parking in hollywood - usually there's meters over on the street north of hollywood blvd near the capitol bldg... forgot what it was called... worse case, there is cheaper parking around the vicinity of the avalon ($8 near the fonda, $7 at the parking lot near ivar & selma) if you don't like street parking. i just refuse to pay for parking in hollywood... i already spend enough money at the bar. haha.

Yeah I knew I could have done better. I normally park in the lot across the street by the Capitol Records building...I think that's $10 but they were filming something there. I didn't know the price until I was already parking. I thought briefly about saying no and looking elsewhere but I didn't have the set times and didn't want to waste time driving around. Turned out I wasn't late at all the 1st opener was still on.

If you were tired, it was a pretty late show they played til close to 1:30, but for dov's sake I'm not going to say that's any excuse for blowing it off because they were great.

Leadbelly, eh? After being told by my husband after the fact (remember, I'd had like 6 drinks), I came home that night and slurred, "They did a Skip Jaaaaaaaaames song!"

its entirely possible that they did a skip james song at your show and a leadbelly at mine if you're questioning yourself. The leadbelly song was "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" with Lanegan on vocals which was also covered by Nirvana on the MTV Acoustic Album in case its the same though.

No, I KNOW they did Skip James because Greg said: "here's a Skip James tune." I had just forgotten the next day that I had told Mr. dnorwood about it, ha ha.
