I downloaded a whole bunch of 2004 releases while visiting my parents over the weekend, and I'm trying to decide which ones to listen to now on my drive back home. It's about 2 & 1/2 hours so I've only got time for about 3 albums, and I've never heard any of these before.

What's your favorite of those listed?

I'll hopefully be leaving sometime this afternoon so hurry and vote! (please)

llhasa is the only one of those that made my top 20.

adem would be my second choice.

edit: totally missed the DBT. definitely go with that one, especially for driving....

DBT, Ike Reilly, Ghostface in that order.

You driving up 85? I used to drive that every weekend, and at the time there was a cell coverage gap the exact length of The Strokes' 'Is This It'

I listened to that album approx. 55,000 times just on drives between Montgomery and PTC.

Drive-By Truckers seems most appropriate for this drive

I only own the Max Richter CD of those, but Drive by Truckers is on my list to get next!

I voted for The M.I.A/Diplo...because it will surely keep you awake.

Yeah, 85 Montgomery to ATL. Staying awake is definitely an issue even with the drive being so short. I've just done it sooooo many times...

I knew you guys would vote for DBT so I figured that was pretty much a given. I definitely want to throw in one of the hiphop albums on there, too, but I really don't know which. They all seem equally tempting. (I voted for Dizzee.)

Also, because of limited poll space, I left off Hair Police, Excepter, The Dead Texan, and Mark Lanegan Band. I didn't think anyone would vote for those anyway, but correct me if I'm wrong.

I can pretty much do that drive in my sleep...As for hip hop, I haven't heard the Dizzee, but from what I've heard from the other one, I just don't like him.

That Ghost is pretty hot, even though it's all over the place (which makes sense, considering who it is) If you like Wu-related shit at all, I'd recco this.

I liked the old Dizzee, but I only listened to it a few times. It's fun stuff, but not the best for repeated listens, I guess. I usually don't like this sort of stuff ("UK Garage" - I hate the Streets), but I guess I just like Dizzee's voice or something. I dunno.

I'll definitely give that Ghostface album some listening time, but I'm gonna stay faithful to the poll results for what I listen to on this drive.

None of these are going to be in my top 20...but, if you've gotta vote, Vote Dizzee.

They wouldn't be good driving music, but damn, I wanna hear Excepter and The Dead Texan. Where did you get these?

Come on guys, just a few more votes.

It's like an 8-way tie for 3rd right now.

I'll hopefully be leaving in 2+ hrs or so. Gotta wait for my car to get out of the shop.

Definitely not the Bark Psychosis -- you might get white-line fever!

Sorry, I love that album, but it's just not road-trip music.

And as much as I love Espers, I don't think I'd try driving to it.

Looks like it's DBT, Dizzee, and then either Ghostface, Marah, or Ike Reilly, depending on what I think I'm in the mood for.

Thanks, guys!

Too late, but I'd go Marah, DBT, Ike Reilly.

So, I'm bored and waiting on stuff at work, and I thought I'd share my verdict on the listening experience from yesterday's drive.

DBT: Cool. Not really my thing, but I did enjoy it and will definitely listen more. Standouts for me were "Puttin People on the Moon", "Boys from Alabama", and "The Buford Stick" which seem to be different from most people's picks. Could just be wierd first-listen impressions on my part. I'm sure it's been said plenty of times before, but the singer kinda sounds like Jay Farrar (not a bad thing).

Dizzee: Good but a little too monotonous and somewhat repetitive. Some tracks could have been a lot better if they'd gone somewhere or developed a little, but they're obviously more club targeted than for home/car listening. Just like the last album, I probably won't listen to the whole thing much, but I'll definitely use some tracks for mixes and parties.

Ike Reilly: Not my thing. I didn't mind it, but I don't know when I'll ever listen to it again. I tried to focus more on the lyrics (which are clever, I guess), but I didn't really glean enough from it for me to feel like it deserved more time or attention.

Ghostface: Still in my car and I haven't finished listening to it yet. So far, though, it's great. Possibly the best of the four, and definitely a more enjoyable listen than Dizzee Rascal.

I didn't see the votes for Marah until today, but I listened to it this morning at work. I think I like it. It kind has a similar feel to The Rosebuds album from this year, but there's a little more to the Marah record that I like. I'll be listening to it some more.
