So I read Egan's Quarantine due to the possibility of using his work for a class Im going to be teaching on Cognitive Science and Science Fiction. I enjoyed it- well most of it.. essentially it explores both neurological modification (neurological modules that affect behavior) and quantum mechanics (collapsible waves, eigenstates etc) . I think he bogs down when attempting to explore the consequences of being able to control collapsing the wave function for human life. But it is entertaining nonetheless.

anyhow, are there any other works of science fiction that deal with cognitive science or metaphysics or other areas that might be relevant for my course?

I also have Egan's Distressed that Im going to read.. its pretty good contemporary hard sci-fi
