After two listens this record reminds me a little of Billie Holiday's last record 'Lady In Satin'. It has the sound of a human being that knows their demise is imminent. The rawness and resignation in Johnny's voice says it all. What an amazing artist.

Definitely. I personally found it hard to listen to, in all honesty. The pain that's flowing through that old voice is absolutely imperative. Very, very raw music.

i have heard this said about american recordings 1-4 as well. maybe listener-imposed?

I bought Ok Computer on Independence Day '97, so records were sold on the Fourth as recently as a decade ago. Prolly still are now.
