i am thinking about getting me a mfa in photography. i figure the sop is going to be fairly important since nothing in my previous education suggests that i have any business doing that. i have been shooting for a fake living for a few years and i have a stong portfolio, so maybe they can ignore that econ degree if i do a good job. anyone have any advice for me?

so I am not an artist but I am working towards being a curator and actually work in a curatorial department (including photography) and I will tell you that a lot of people in the art world hate it when you start spewing bullshit about your vision, etc (I want to capure the essence of human existence)...I totally don't mean you're like this. but be honest and say why you want to continue your career. I think people don't like to be told what to see in art, etc.

I would be happy to look at it if you wanted some help. I applied to grad school this past fall (and actually got in some places) so I am all up on my personal statement business

i'm looking at the international center of photogrpahy/bard program. i guess i might drop some apps at the new school or pratt maybe but i would be less inclined to go to those.

Have you ever written a statement of purpose before? I had to write one to get into the BFA program at the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. It was the first time I've ever written one, so I did plenty of research on what to include in a SOP. It's like a cover letter, so of course it is important...

I'm assuming since it's a MFA statement, they'll probably want you to include previous educations and experiences. A bit more sophisticated than the BFA SOP. of course. Did they ask for you to include anything specific?
