I've never broken up/been dumped by anyone. But I'd probably ruin a lot of bands for my gf if we ever broke up.

I tend to think I'm not like that, though. If I like a band enough, I'll fight through the memories.

I had XTC ruined for me for a little while back in the mid-90's.

I had Van Halen, the Rheostatics, Peter Gabriel, and Jethro Tull ruined for me.

There's only one song associated with my first girlfriend that I can't listen to. I skip over it every time I listen to the cd which sucks because I loved that song.

Other than that, I've been good so far.

I still can't listen to mouse on mars cause of a bad experience at one of their shows once (though they were great live)

I've mostly worked through reclaiming most of the bands I shared with ex gfs. It sucks and you try not to remember it at that moment...5 years down+, and you can begin the healing process with albums.

the smiths, morrissey, ride and suede. and it really pisses me off that i can't get over it.

generally i try not to let that happen.

work through it! put it on mixtapes for other people, play it for other girls, make enough new experiences with it so it doesn't just remind you of one person. music is way too worth it to give up for an ex.

Not so much ruined but there are moments when I'll get negatively nostalgic and I'll have to immediately stop listening to whatever it is... usually the Cure.

Definitely some tained artists/albums/songs, but I think everything is salavageable.

Blind Melon - s/t and Belly "King" are both two of my favorite records of all time but do bring up bad memories.

Fuck that, they were MY songs to begin with. 'Sides, if the songs were listened to during good times, the memories should be nice.

I don't look back on the past with aversion, but "good times" they weren't always.

Before present partner, I hadn’t dated anyone since high school that shared the same music tastes so it hasn’t been a problem. Not that past partners didn’t have good taste in music, they just didn’t mirror my own (or should I say, didn’t embrace my music to an extent where it was something we shared – hell, one of my ex’s called the Pixies “heavy metal”?!?!?!).
