how are you on four beers already? you must get up very early in the morning. you should make a drunken mix for us. and write things about how much each of the tracks bum you out.

don't you have some festival to attend? and i was up at 9, I'll have you know. i've been pacing myself.

I can't make a mix from this computer. I can write about whatever pops up on the ipod, though.

spit it off the ipod and post it. why can't you make a mix from there, because the cd drive doesn't work?

okay, why the hell not.

"Snails" - The Format
this is literally the first note of these guys that i've heard, though i know we've got a lotta fans on the board here. It isn't what I expected. Almost all accoustic and breezy, it's almost a bit subdued. but then later it gets a bit cinematic in its instrumentation. I could listen to this again. I wonder if this gibes with the rest of the album...

"little things" - lilly allen
it says it's a demo, but i don't know. it's probably off her album. is that out yet? I feel like I should like this song, but it just sort of bores me. I was so blown away by the first 2 songs of hers that I heard ("LDN" and "Smile"), but it's been a bit of a downward slope since then. This isn't terrible, but it might as well be dido or whoever the fuck. remember dido? what happened with that?

"Incinerate" - Sonic Youth
i've pointed out elsewhere that, while I like this album, ity still sounds like the last 3 or 4 they've made to me. It's a good spot they've hit, I wouldn't fuck with it too much. I was reading the latest issue of Filter and saw Thurston, for possibly the first timer I can think of, looking like an old dude.

it does mesh well with the scene from chungking express that was on though.

"Burning Spear" - S.O.U.L.
i'm sure i got this from a blog somewhere, and i remember noting to myself that i liked this, but as i listen to it now i'm sure i've never heard it. It's a flute loop with a drum beat. simple and short.

sorta. i don't know, i always look at him like a big kid, you know? he just has the wide-eyed joie de vivre that i don't associate with grizzled rock veterans. i wonder how their kid is. She's gotta be like 15 by now, right? I wonder if the's terminally embarrassed by her parents, and if she's aware of how many muasic nerds would totally kill to take her place.

"Somersault (Danger Mouse remix feat. MF Doom)" - Zero 7.
I can't say i'm a fan of Zero 7, they just sound like a lot of other bands. Or is that JJ72? I can never remember this shit. Nearest I can tell, Danger Mouse didn't do much of anything to this track outside of stuttering a few drums and calling Doom. good for him.

"Stevie Nix" - The Hold Steady
normally i'd just skip the songs everyone's at least sorta familiar with, but GODDAMN i like this song. i don't think i've ever skipped it before, which says a lot because i get sick of everything.

"I Wanna Die" - Jolie Holland
I feel like her career has been on an upswing lately. Good for her, since I think she was the most talented Be Good Tanya. this song isn't nbearkly as depressing as the title would have you believe (neither is the Deadly Snakes' song of the same name, come to think of it). Just her and an accoustic guitar with an overdubbed vocal track. It's quiet and pretty and determined. I don't know how it's determined exactly, but it's definitely a quality that sprang to mind listening to this.

goddamn i just wanna get rid of this heineken in my fridge and it's not making anything any easier.

no, the music didn't stop, i'm just getting easily distracted.

"Turnin to a Bug" - Brendan Small
yes, I keep the entire soundtrack to Home Movies on my ipod. it makes me laugh.

"Swisha" - Ratatat
this is from their new album that Timis hooked me up with. I think Ratatat has one of the most distinct sounds I can think of. I'm sure it's just one piece of equipment, but damned if I can't always pick it out right away. What I've heard of this album sounds like they've branched out a bit, which is good. Still, someone should just put rappers over this because it's all i can think about when I hear them now. I'm like "whens' Fat Joe gonna come in?"

"Fuck Off (The Dirty Rooster)" - Slim Gaillard
This song sucks. It consists of guys sitting around saying "Fuck Off" pantomimed as a rooster. Then there's some nice guitar work in the break that you're like "dude, don't waste that on this bullshit tune". This is the sort of song that will piss me off when I hear it walking around and I make a note to delete ASAP, but then forget and fly into even more of a rage when it shows up again. fuck.

"The Gloaming (DJ Shadow remix)" - Radiohead
I have no idea if this is actually a DJ Shadow remix, but i definitely wouldn't rule it out. There's a bunch of Bush clips in here, and this collaboration should have me doing backflips, but instead i'm just annoyed with liberal gimmicks. me!

man, today's really gona hurt my post count. I should edit this all into one superpost.

i forgot that she's pouring a can of heineken on herself in this movie. Shit, I think I forgot a lot of things about this movie.

"Let's Do It" - Paul Westerberg
Holy shit is that Joan Jett singing with him? AWESOME. It's not a bad song, either. Normally, PW's solo stuff either falls under "amazing" or "please shut the fuck up. seriously". With somebody like Joan Jett, though, I guess you can't really bring the suck, you know? I wonder whose guitar solo that is.

"The First Song" - Band of Horses
I don't feel too strongly about these guys one way or another. I can't tell if all their songs sound the same or if it's just the dude's voice that makes me think that. This might be my least favorite song of theirs I've heard, though.

"These Days" - Paul Westerberg
fucking shitty random. This is from Tommy's mix from awhile back. I like this version, but I don't know it's one of those songs that has such a strong association with a monotone teutonic broad.

"California, Pt. 2" - Mason Jennings
I swear i've had this song for like 3 year but for some reason my ipod just fell in love with it this spring. maybe it knows about the move. I don't know. It's more or less about the exact opposite iof what we're doing (going towards LA, not buying a house, etc...) though. stupid ipod.
