i just bought 2 air conditioners and they are going to be delivered today. they won't be installing it until thursday. my question is:

do i tip the guys who are just dropping off the air conditioner? how much? it is a 4th floor walk up.

do i have to tip the guy who installs the air conditioner on thursday?

they've already charged my $90 for the installation charge. isn't that enough?

and after watching seinfeld, do i have to offer them a drink?

When I bought my new bed and frame I paid the store to have it delivered and it was all inclusive.

I tried to tip them but they said they weren't allowed to take it. I'm not sure everyone would do that though.

I don't think it hurts. At the very least I'd offer a cold drink.

Then again I feel guilty about being so lazy and not doing it myself.

I think this is fairly standard but then I've never had anything delivered to my house or apartment before.

I didn't tip when they installed my alarm system, does that help?

If there isn't a shipping, freight or delivery charge, I'd consider tipping them ten bucks each, but that installation charge is pretty hefty and should suffice.
Most non-restaurant delivery people make a good deal of cash doing their job and don't need tips, but I can understand giving a man some extra cash because he has shamed your masculinity.

defintiely offer a drink. Offer them a small tip if you want, but I don't think that's as necessary.

If it's after 5pm and you're their last stop you can kill two birds with one stone and give em a cold sixer of something domestic.

tip the guys that carry that shit up four flights, poor douche. or how many flights would they have to carry it up before you'd say "hey, that's a bit outside the realm of doing your job"?

basically there's nothing illegal about tipping people all over the place.

they are already charging me an extra $90 PER installation. this is a separate charge, isn't that their tip?

i guess i don't mind giving them diet cokes, that's all i have...or copious amounts of tap water.

I'd personally tip them, but that's because my very first job was delivering furniture. So I have a soft spot.

Definately offer something cold to drink if it's this hot where you're at.

That $90 goes to the company they work for to pay for the truck, the insurance, the salaries (albeit low salaries) and such. Drop a $20 on them dudes and they will give you good karma all week, trust me, I used to deliver washers/dryers...tips are waaay cool.

This is not an attempt to make fun of you, but don't these units usually only weigh around 25-50lbs and don't you basically plug it in once you stabilize it in your window.
I had a couple in my first crappy apartment, and I thought I moved them during the fall/winter months so I could seal my windows. I also thought the only service people I know have had to have is freon replacement.
I only weigh 140lbs, but figured I could carry one of those up four flights with a couple breaks.

i have to have 2 air conditioners installed, so i don't think i could carry them up four flights. also, there's some brackets my building says i have to use. i think its so they don't fall out of the window. i don't know what for, but the installation guy should know about this. i'm not confident in my securing skills, so i'll leave it up to those big dudes to install them.
