While it was mentioned briefly in the United 93 thread, it's being released on August 9th so I thought it deserved it's own.

http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/wtc/

While I have no desire to see this movie, it's not because of the "too soon" sentiment. I experienced it live on TV, seeing a movie of it almost seems pointless.

But on the other hand, I kinda want to go see it to see how much Oliver fucks it up the way he did The Doors movie.

How much Stone fucks it up? Try: how much Nic 'Cage' Coppola fucks it up.

Mind you, fucking up a movie about the Doors is pretty easy considering the shitty subject material. Pretentious and self-important filmaker makes movie about pretentious and self-important singer/bad poet. And I say this as a fan of the Doors music.

And the less said about Nicholas Cage the better. Go back home, fuck your teen bride and create us a Bruce Wayne.

Sounds like you got your impression of Jim Morrison through Stone's film, that's how skewed it is. Damn it, you're making me hijack my own thread.

Nah, I've been a Doors fan since I was a kid, way before the movie. I just never bought the whole Morrison-the-genius type thing. Listening to Stone, Danny Sugarman and Ray Manzarek all go on and on about how godlike he was made me want to kill myself. But, like I said, I've always liked the music a lot, and never let those issues spoil my enjoyment.

Ray Manzarek is the original rockstar douchebag. Because of people like him, we have Flea and Lars Ulrich.

Yeah, I like his movies generally, but the guy is a serious fucking idiot. The Doors movie had a few good moments but overall, the Morrison worship made me nauseous. JFK and the others are indeed pretty awesome.

And dont' forget Nixon either.

Yikes - UTurn? Erk.

Weird to see a splashy trailer on the apple site for WTC. How long did it take us to make a movie prodding into Vietnam?

I don't really like Oliver Stone and have not ever really really enjoyed one of his films. However, I may go see this. It just depends on whether or not I want to cry.

How does Born On The Fourth of July (arguably his best movie aside from Platoon) get left off of this list?

And Natural Born Killers is an awesome movie. If you dont get it, you dont get it. And obviously, it makes more sense in the context of 1994.

Yeah, NBK was fucking great. Any movie that begins and ends with Leonard Cohen is okay with me. The unrated cut is even better.

I was DRUNK when I posted that. And Born on the 4th FRIGHTENS ME. MUCH more so than Platoon or whatever.

And that movie will need to be revisited in light of your new "They Wasted Their Lives" ethos.

I just want to say that I don't think it's fair to compare Flea to Lars. Flea isn't that bad.
