I just finished watching Season 6. I've kind of been out of the loop with the rumours and such as to the future of the show. Before finishing this season, I was under the impression it was the last... I take it they decided to do another year?

predictions? Tony gets whacked? He survives?

Bobby winds up the boss?

Spinoffs? Movie?

Extended dream sequence involving sad clowns and rotting canolis?

I really don't care what happens as long as AJ gets whacked.

I think they basically started writing/filming season 6 and they realized that they weren't going to be able to wrap everything up in one season so they announced that they would do Season 6 and then a mini final season of 6 or 7 episodes next year. I don't think they will bill it as Season 7. They may just do an addendum to S6.

yeah, it's only 8 episodes.

david chase apparently only had 4 seasons worked out and hbo kept getting more out of him, so the show's dynamic has been thrown out of whack over the last few seasons because the plots have had to slow down. and when they were negotiating for this final season, i guess hbo and chase came to a middleground and he agreed to do a short season after 6 and just label it as special extra episodes.

...and this would explain those long-ass vignettes of Carmella in Paris. I don't think i've ever seen more obvious time-stretching filler in a television drama.
