So, Im going to California in a few weeks . Could I ave possibly picked the worst 6 day span to go?

Ill be there from the 21st thru the 26th. Here is what is going on around those dates, which I would normally do in a heartbeat.

Jan 10th, Kingdom of Snakes (ex-Nothingface) make their live debut. LA, CA

Jan 20th, John 5 (ex-Manson) makes his new bands live debut. LA, CA

and the capper.....

January 27th. The Section Quartet will be performing at The Echo in LA, with featured guests Grant Lee Phillips, and Greg 'MotherFuckin' Dulli....

One freaking day after i leave....This is a rare once only kind of deal I bet....

Well, that also means, i am gonna visit Dulli's bar..maybe he'll be there as well...

for the rest of the day I will now ponder if i wanna spend the money on changing my plane ticket, staying an additional two nights in the hotel, and all the other spening that comes along with it, for this show???

Anyone know anything bout these guys? Aural? Puma? Californians?

www.thesection.net is their site....

ok, i got thinking to do......

Im seriously thinking of staying thru Friday...

The other two shows, which would be cool to see, are only the beginning of things for those bands...The Dulli thing is more of a special event....I think Im gonna do it.

Dulli's not usually there (a.k.a. I've only seen him there once), but the Short Stop is an awesome bar...
Um...
The Soundtrack Of Our Lives is playing the 26th (@ the Troubadour) if you like them...

Tristeza w/ Araby (from Jejune & the And/ors) solo on the 21st @ Spaceland...

Also, the 22nd/24th will mark the re-arrival of the F-kin' Champs to our fair city - 22nd @ Spaceland w/the Minibosses, 24th @ the Smell w/Upsilon Acrux...

Also, not to tout Spaceland so much, but on that Sunday, there's this cool sounding "NEW WINTER GARDEN MUSIC" series, which is a collaborative night of music featuring members of the Tyde, Frausdots, Messes, and Mystic Chords of Memory...

Plus, it's L.A. - you could always come and experience the city, with all it's ugly blemishes and ridiculousity. I mean, there's nothing wrong with just doing that. Nothing wrong at all...

PostMersh (dont think I caught your name yet)
Thats what I hear (bout his bar)....Before he got the second Twilight singers record out, I heard he was there daily, tending bar and whatnot, till his inspiration came back and jumped back into music mode....

i figure, if he is in town and playing a show that night, amybe he'll be around the bar....Ill go anyway, to say I went there...maybe they have a souvenier shirt or something as well...

This is my 6th trip to Hollywood/LA....Im gonna look to expand my horizons and exploration a bit...you can only do Santa Monica pier so many times....

and alot of time will be at Amoeba....Monday night, Autolux.

but im gonna extend my stay!

I'm going to have to play hooky to leave work early to see Autolux @ Amoeba.

And, I think you should stay longer. I can show you around Long Beach & take you to Fingerprints.

And, Short Shop is my favorite bar in LA.

And, Dov... stay away from the West Side, you gotta experience Hollywood & Silverlake a bit more. :D

hmmmm, hotels within walking distance, not that i can think of at the moment.... most of the hotels i know of are right at the beginning of the strip like the standard, argyle, etc. and i'm not sure where the hollywood metropolitan hotel is...

Metropolitan I think, by looking at the map, is basically right off the 101 exit on the West side of the highway (Amoeba side)....its 5825 sunset, while Amoeba is 6400 Sunset.....i thought it sounded close and booked it, but when i looked at the map, its bout 1.5 miles....ugh....

i think there was a closer one, but it was more of a motel....if im gonna stay potentially 7 days, im goin a bnit nicer then that..so i drive there..not that much of a biggie...

i love the standard.. stayed there my first year, until my boss scolded me for picking one of the more expensive places on the strip...hmm, maybe ill switch there for the last two days? hmm research to do!!!

and dammit Chris, now it just sounds like you want me out of town all together!!!! :P

try the argyle as well, it's right next to the standard if you want to stay somewhere nice....

and yeah, for la, 1.5 miles is kinda far to walk. we're lazy and don't walk. ;)

I walk a lot...once made the trip from Amoeba to Sea Level in under an hour - in flame-spattered converse high tops, no less...

The Sunset Strip walk isn't that bad, espec. if it's only from the Argyle to Amoeba... and there's a Red Line (LA's not-so-pathetic subway) stop about 4 blocks from Amoeba - you could always plan around that for a more affordable hotel....

Yeah, call me a hater, not too fond of the west side.... I'm usually out and about in the Silverlake/Echo Park area.

DOH. I just realized it's the same night as Razorlight. They're playing on the 27th @ the El Rey. I think T is going to that show as well.

Gosh, I've been so busy today that I'm just now reading this. Wish I could go to that Section Quartet gig, but as Dri stated, I'll be at the Razorlight gig at the El Rey. Sorry, man. However, I shall be at the Autolux in-store.

With regards to hotels nearer to Amoeba -- except for cheesy motels, you're better off staying at the Hotel Metro. Stay away from the Denny's on the corner and head to Roscoe's midway between Amoeba and the hotel. I'm sure Dri and I would love to meet you for fried chicken and waffles! ;) (I hear Dri requesting her #7 special!)

Honey you got it ALL wrong- #13 smothered with a large sunrise. YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM.

Oh, and I guess Section Quartet is also playing tonight @ the Echo as well w/Division Day- tonight they're performing OK Computer. AH! I think I might have to go, but I had other plans.... decisions, decisions.
