Tickets go on sale tomorrow -- he's got a two night gig at the Troubadour. Last couple of times I've seen him, he bored the crap outta me. Not due to his music, cuz he was drunk and talked WAY too much. I'm in a quandary -- should I give him another chance? I mean, his music IS spot on...just wondering if I should take the gamble.

Depends on when you abandoned ship. I'd like to think he can put out another good record at some point.

I dunno, but your avatar was bouncing exactly in time with the song I was just listening to (Amy Millan's Baby I)

I've always enjoyed his live show, even when he's been drunk and argumentative with the crowd. Like you said, when he's on, he's great. I'd risk it.

Ask bitterbuffalo about his BDB experience.

he was so bad when i saw him that he nearly ruined his record for me (bewilderbeast). that's never happened before, and never since, but you'd have to pay me to go to another one of his shows. save your money for something more deserving, it won't be hard to come by.

from what i've heard, not very great live. i can probably get tickets from work, so if i do, i'll take ya (that way if the show sucks, you won't feel bad about wasting your $).

I've heard all of these bad things about BDB live, but I just talked to Lemming last night, who saw BDB at Bumbershoot and said that not only was he really good, but his new songs were good as well. So take that for what you will.

This is going to come off a bit harsh and I'm slightly reluctant to share, but this guys show was the most off-putting ever.

His show @ Bimbo's here in SF 5-6 years so was embarrassingly bad I think I may have played HOB just one time since. Not only did his show reek of alcoholism, but his flippin ego was off the charts. Mind you I can take drunkenness on stage. It can be fun & amusing. (See-Robert Pollard related artists.) His was of the worst kind, we (the crowd) were priviledged to be in his 'brit, america hating presence", and no one was better than him. His rants went on & on & on. Well fuck that 'bloke', you're in the wrong place.
As I was leaving the venue with about 5-6 others (1 of whom was from Birmingham who apologized) halfway through his set I kept thinking of what Leslie Nielson said from the original 'Naked Gun' so I shared it with the group. "The idea of a Queen is quite silly to us".
We laughed and slinked off in the night to get drunk.

he was fantastic live, a lot more humble than his earlier antics and not drunk. he didn't ramble at all but promoted the new disc (out in october uk), preformed a cigarette trick, and took requests from the audience - at which he jokingly claimed to not "know that one...", "that one's shit...", "don't remember the words." the 5 or so songs he debut from his upcoming album are really good, imo.

i saw him last night and it was very good. i didn't know what to expect because i'd heard such drastically different things, but i only thought he was a bit boring and talked too much. the playing was excellent. it was cut short due to a curfew damon apparently didn't know about, but he did pretty well in the allotted time.

I've heard bad things about him live, but I heard them on CMJ so all our stories may actually have the same single show as a source.

However, he hasn't put out a good album since 2000, so...

I'd say yes.

i don't know if i would bother...i'd probably take dri up on the free tickets but i just really don't know if he's worth it anymore. i saw him in 2002 or 3 i think and it was pretty damn amusing but i just can't see it as really being worth it anymore. has he put out anything even remotely worth a damn since Have you fed the fish? (and even that was hardly worth a damn)

When I saw him in '02, a lot of his stuff came across as schtick and got old fans. The most annoying bit was stopping something mid-song a few times because something wasn't "just right." Ummm... it's live performance, Gough.

If the price isn't too ridiculous, then go. But he hasn't had a good album out since "Have you Fed the Fish"
