You know, like: "DRUMS!" (and then the drums come in, all by their lonesome), and thus the rest of the band follows, one instrument at a time.

Looking for these for a friend who is making a mix.
So far she has:
Archie Bell and the Drells - Tighten Up
Sly & The Family Stone - Dance To the Music
Bonzo Dog Band - The Intro & The Outro
(my suggestion, of course!)

Any others?

Thanks!

"Memphis Soul Stew" - King Curtis

Probably the greatest instrument callout track ever.

Today's special is Memphis Soul Stew
We sell so much of this, people wonder what we put in it
We gonna tell you right now
Give me about a half a teacup of bass
(bass riff)
Now I need a pound of fatback drums
(drum riff)
Now give me 4 tablespoons of boiling Memphis guitars
This goin' taste alright
(guitar riff)
Now just a little pinch of organ
(organ riff)
Now give me a half a pint of horn
(sax riff)
Place on the burner and bring to a boil
That's it, that's it, that's it right there.
Now beat, well.
(all instrumental hell breaks loose)

Not so much like that, but more like the examples posted: wjere the WHOLE BAND comes in one-at-a-time, as they are introduced.

But yeah, that one and the Pixies' "Rock Me Joe" are easily two of the best guitar solo intros out there.
:D

Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells (though that's a bit long for a mix, but hell, the narrator introduces every instrument that gets added)

Darkness - I Believe in a Thing Called Love

U2's live version of "Pride" from Rattle & Hum, Bono yells "The Edge!" before the solo.

There's also a live version of "Gloria", perhaps from Under A Blood Red Sky, where he introduces the band during the instrumental break.

Is it Bullet the Blue Sky where he says "OK, Edge> PLAY THE BLUES!"?

I remember on "Simpsons Sing The Blues" Marge does a cover(ish) of this. Actually not too bad.
