So I stopped by my beloved Indigo/Chapters (big chain bookstore) yesterday. Usually they actually have pretty good music playing in there.

But yesterday someone apparently thought it was a good idea to put on an album of reggae covers of Radiohead.

They're lucky I didn't throw up on one of their book displays.

Anyone hear this before?

Maybe someone already made a thread about it.

Argh.

Radiodread - Easy All Stars? I's OK Computer done by dub/reggae artists.

I have it...It's entertaining. I can't see listening to it more then once or twice a year though.

That must have been it. God Lard. It was killin' me.

It's like that album an ex-boyfriend gave me: "lounge" covers of Black Sabbath.

He was all: "You like loungy stuff, and you like black Sabbath---and it's FUNNY."

Happy I got out of that situation quick.

Heh heh. Yeah, I figured, just don't know how to search for it without knowing what it's called.

Guess it didn't really register until I actually heard it in all it's glory. :(

Really?

I love Radiohead and I love alot of reggae, but I just don't think the majority of Radiohead songs actually lend themselves to a reggae interpretation.

Part of what I love and find interesting about Radiohead are the sharp changes and constrasts between the spacey, ambient stuff and the freak-out kick-your-head-in loud parts. Throwing a steady-as-you-go, easygoing reggae vibe over them seems like it just takes away from it's power.

i just think its sad that the only way lots of people wanna listen to reggae is if they do some sort of gimmick like this or the Pink Floyd one or whatever.

Just go grab some Lee Perry records and forget this crap.

Or...if you must have reggae covers, how about Toots and the Mytals version of the John Denver classic Country Road?

i love how reggae dudes will cover anything and make it their own. some of my favorite 45's of the last year were irony free covers of brittney spears and cher.

on the flip side of your lee perry comment it bothers me that people tend to think that only old reggae is good reggae. of courese, i think that about country . . . but i never said i wasn't a hypocrate.

I agree about the old reggae comment too.

Although I am a bit of a hypocrite too...if only because I'm not a big dancehall fan and that seems to be where most of the modern reggae action is. I like some Sizzla stuff though...and Capleton. Oh..and Damien Marley's album last year was fantastic.

Any suggestions for some more current reggae would be greatly appreciated...or links to some sounds even more greatly appreciated.

Just not around too many reggae people these days.
