I think the 16 year old might be from or near Ruston. He was working with Alexander, who represents NoCenLa, and apparently AP was picking up from the Ruston Daily Leader.

Hey, Loogar, question. If this had turned out to be a Dem from New England -- or even, just, Pennsylvania or Wisconsin -- how would people like you, working the other side, and the members of Congress for whom they work be portraying this. I imagine some Rep. -- & not just any old nut-bag from Idaho (paging Helen Chenoweth!), but a bigger name, maybe Lantos or Issa from California, or Davis from Virginia -- going on Hardball & saying that this is indicative of the Democrat Party. (& Matthews would agree, wholeheartedly.)

Is that a correct read?

Meanwhile, what have the Dems. done with this? Nothing.

INteresting observation, Monty. And to be sure, Santorum would be touting this as absolute proof that unless we cut taxes and impose pre-Vatican II law on the entire country that molos would be roaming the halls of Congress in McGruff costumes with special zippers for Dickie Waiver access.

I mean, is NO ONE going to point out the inherent irony that the party of "law and order" and "family values" is turning into the party of poopoo dingdong?

Any truth to the rumor that this guy, Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld exchanged small children for Christmas last year?

Actually, I heard Pelosi is trying to investigate this. I have heard that Boehner of Ohio had known about this for sometime, and he is one of the big mouthpieces for the GOP right now. There is also a Yahoo story that he began his emails in 2005, so you have to wonder how long they were trying to hide this shit.
It seems as if the GOP and possibly the Presidential administration looked the other way on this one for a little too long

Yes, but Pelosi's a shrew and abysmal as a leader, so she'll manage to swing the decision on this to the GOP.

(Really, just getting in billzebub and elvis fu's posts, before they do. Save them the time of plugging in their auto-text.)

Sometimes, yes. But on this, a simple request for a full hearing re: the sequence of events -- how long was Hastert keeping this under his hat? -- and GOP prevaricating after should suffice to win the battle.

Anyway, the real battle on this is going to be fought in FLA. The State GOP has already asked that any ballots yet to be printed be stricken of Foley's name, with his replacement's name entered instead. Now, that should still be a violation of FLA law, but might be still little too late anyway (since most of the ballots are printed), but now that the member has resigned, the news on this that could break out of DC will be minimal.

This particular Democrat faggot thinks a little bit of compassion for the guy is in order. And the kid was 16 and totally playing along... (still no excuse for Foley's behavior, however).

But you totally miss the larger point... it is not a matter of "this could happen to any body, any party..." This happened to a formal spokesperson for the Republican "moralist" position. The party of "family values" (which scanned in the last national election as "we're the party of adam and eve, not adam and steve..."). It's the hyposcrisy that makes this story nationally siginificant, not the sexual (and illegal) foibles of Foley.

Aside from the sympathy for a monger, I think we said the same thing?

Tote.

See... the Democratic Party is the Big Tent Party... all y'all fit! Which is why both houses will be Ours in November. I just hope they don't do the impeachment thing... I seriously think Bush lied on numerous occasions and is deserving of impeachment... and I seriously think that our country's greater good is so much more important than impeaching the poor schlub.

You emphasized the coverup... I emphasized the moral hypocrisy.

I think we pick up 7-10 in the house and net 3 in the senate, they keep control, which bodes well for '08.

And, if there is one thing that has always drawn me to the Dems and away from the Repubs, it is the Big Tent of the former, and the hypocrisy of the latter.

Wise. If we have both houses, McCain is the outsider and will win (if he doesn't implode with an angry gaff...totally capable of a Dean-Iowa heaaaawww moment).

Yeah, he really is. For a good time he was my political hero. Now, not so much. all politics IS local. I'll PM you.
