This is the new record from Doseone (Themselves, cLOUDDEAD, 13&God, etc.) fronted band.
Subtle @ The Abbey Pub in Chicago was one of the Top 5 shows I've seen all year. I loved their last record, A New White, and I guess this one, for hero:for fool is a little more PRO and PROduction is higher quality. Basically a record made by a band that has been together for more than a couple of years.

Here's the Pitchfork review.

how does it compare to 13 & god and clouddead? i read the pitch review but didn't have a feel for how much they're alike.

I still don't know if I've heard Subtle.

Doseone is really hit or miss for me. Some of his stuff I really like and other things are kinda boring. I may pick this up, though.

I haven't heard the new record personally, but the last record was a mix of dark production, live drumming, guitars, etc. I'm terrible at explaining music. It's somewhere in between 13 & God/cLOUDDEAD.

Dri,

Do you work for Astralwerks? If so, do you know a girl named Leslie that works there? At least I think she's still with them...

Oh, weird. That track does sound like Gnarls Barkley, but I wouldn't really say it sounds worse. Not what I was expecting.

Is this track indicative of the rest of the record? Because now I'm thinking that I have heard some older Subtle, but it wasn't like that at all.

I think Dri could've picked a better track from this record.

i actually liked the mercury craze though... and that's the single they're releasing from the album.

"F.K.O." from A New White blows this track away. I could see if Asltralwerks is trying to sell some records why they would release this track. I'm with Timis and Drinky. It sounds like Gnarls Barkley. Dose's vocals don't help mattters.
Don't get me wrong, I plan to check out the record because I'm a doseone/jel fan, but this song isn't a very good introduciton for new fans.

Actually, one of the other tracks from the new album that they have up on their myspace page is pretty good. A little more like the older stuff.

This has been on my MP3 player in the car for the past couple of weeks and if I have it on random, I almost always have to double check when something from the album comes on because it's often so hard to peg. Stylisticly, it's all over the fookin' place, but I definitely like it... Maybe not as much as I loved 13 & God, but whatever.

Agree that this would be a pretty odd place for a beginner to start; New White was really really good (the track with Fog grabs me so hard) and probably the most approachable, and the Wishingbone ep had some really swanky tracks too.

i think a cross between clouddead & tvotr for starters, but musically it's more broad and doesn't feel as clausterphobic as 13&god or clouddead.
