kids nowadays never got the chance to experience a vinyl album. 8 tracks with artwork that you sat and stared at for hours. you studied the lyrics, you knew the track names.

not that many of us don't do that now, but it seems that music has turned into a number instead of a piece of audio art. they expect something extra from a cd, partly because much of the music they buy sucks, but also because the "cd" doesn't mean much to them.

i'm rambling, but i hope that makes sense.

and yeah, i agree with Noel. but that's not the first time.

Artwork is the thing I miss the most with the ipoding of music.

Oasis mainman Noel Gallagher says the "fantasy" has gone out of making music - because of advances in technology.

Speaking exclusively in this week's NME, the star bemoans the iPod and DVD generation because of their insistence on wanting more and more information about how records are made.

He said: "This generation of kids just rely on the technology - that's what they want. These days you can see fucking Johnny Borrell in his pants going through the bass parts, and that just strips away the magic for me."

He added: "Everyone just wants more and more information. All the fantasy's gone out of music, 'cos everything is too fucking real. Every album comes with a DVD with some cunt going, 'Yeah well, we tried the drums over there, but...' Give a shit, man! It makes people seem too human, whereas I was brought up on Marc Bolan and David Bowie, and it was like, 'Do they actually come from fucking Mars?'"

I'll just add the new best-of from Oasis makes for a good listen. Some acts have just enough good tunes to make a kickin' comp, but get kinda samey in album-after-album contexts.

I find myself having the problem of no longer knowing song titles. I still buy CDs, but I usually only listen to them on my ipod at work. And I'm not taking it out of my pocket every song to see the title of it. Kinda sucks.
