Rapper hurt in reality car-racing show

Ms. Dynamite was recovering from a 100-mph crash that occurred during filming of "The Race," a car-racing reality show on Britain's Sky One TV network.

Brian Johnson, lead singer of rock band AC/DC, struck the back of the British rapper's Formula Ford car at Silverstone racetrack in central England on Sunday.

"The Race" pits teams of male and female celebrities against each other. The drivers had completed lap four of a 25-lap race when the collision occurred.

Paramedics treated the singer, whose real name is Niomi McLean-Daley, at the track. Though she didn't suffer any serious injuries, she was airlifted to a hospital as a precaution and remained overnight.

"Brian Johnson's wheel clipped her back wheel," Sky One television spokesman Lee Robson said. "That forced her car into the barrier and sent her car spinning about 50 yards down the track."

Robson couldn't confirm the singer's condition Monday.

McLean-Daley's 2002 debut album, "A Little Deeper," won Britain's Mercury Prize for album of the year.

Contestants trained at the racetrack for a week, progressing to faster cars before the finale, Robson said.

Other contestants included Melissa Joan Hart of TV's "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" and 1980s British pop singer Gary Numan.

For some reason, the image of Brian Johnson driving a race car keeps making me giggle. Must be his hat. Or maybe his Jackie Stewart brogue.

What's not so funny is the crash that happened last week to another z-list celebrity in "The Race". That was brutal.

No chance! Ingrid Tarrant, she had her ass decapitated. Bad news for a celeb. (seriously, she rolled a truck over, looked nasty)

Ms.Dynamite was rushed to hospital for TV enhancement.

Dude flies stunt planes, I'm sure a race car is no problem. How many phone books was Brian Johnson sitting on to see over the dash?

Ingrid Tarrant escapes injury in reality TV driving stunt
Last updated at 17:59pm on 7th November 2006

Ingrid Tarrant had a lucky escape when a TV driving stunt went wrong.

The estranged wife of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? host Chris Tarrant was involved in a horror crash while filming Sky One show The Race.

She was attempting to drive a "monster truck" over a ramp when it flipped over in the air and landed on its roof.

Emergency rescuers pulled her from the wreckage and she was treated by paramedics at the Silverstone track in Northants.

A spokesman for the Sky One show said doctors have given Tarrant the all-clear but she remains seriously shaken by the crash.

The Race is a week-long programme presented by Denise Van Outen which pits male and female celebrities against one another in various driving challenges.

The women's team is under the guidance of Formula One ace David Coulthard.

Tarrant, 52, was competing in a one-on-one challenge with pop star Gary Newman.

The pair were supposed to drive Bigfoot 4x4 "monster trucks" at speed up a ramp then land on three parked cars.

The show spokesman said: "Ingrid was in the lead and doing around 40mph. She hit the ramp at an angle and the truck flipped four metres in mid-air, rolled and came down on its roof.

"The paramedics and ambulance crew rushed to the truck and managed to get her out.

"She was conscious when they reached her - and lucid. The first thing she said was, 'I'm sorry'.

"She was taken to the medical centre on site and treated by staff.

"Luckily she seems to be fine. Obviously she is seriously shaken up and we will have to wait and see whether she feels able to carry on with the show."

Other celebrities competing on the programme include former England footballer Les Ferdinand, ex-Atomic Kitten star Jenny Frost and rapper Ms Dynamite.
