Searched and couldn't find a thread. If there is, apologies. Great restart to the franchise. Being a fan of the series, and having seen Craig in Layercake, I had serious doubts. As I walked out the theater, I could honestly say I enjoyed it, and am looking forward to the next one. Craig was great as 007, and laid to rest, for me at least, any apprehensions.

The story was fast-paced enough, while the chitty chat portion was kept to a "moving forward" basis. One of my favorite things was the opening title sequences. One of the better ones in awhile.

I've read 2 reviews in papers, and it's getting good write-ups.

I'd like to see it.

I hope to catch this today. I don't think I've ever been excited about seeing a Bond film until this one and inversely to FR, primarily because of Craig's performance in Layer Cake.

Would this be a good movie for someone who thought all of the Pierce Brosnan bond movies were crap?

It better be, 'cause I'm going to see it this weekend and I thought all the Brosnan movies were crap.

It all depends. How did you feel about Timothy Dalton?

this is different than any other bond movie. it's dirtier, more violent, and not glossy. what you have to remember, though, is that casino royale isn't great source material. the book is ok, but i don't think it lends itself well to a movie. i mean, a baccarat game is at its center. there're scenes after it, but that's where a lot of the tension is focused on.

i'm a big 007 fan and i thought it was pretty good.

It certainly looks like they took a very different approach based on the previews.

I thought the Brosnan movies ranged from meh to terrible, but I'd kinda like to see this one.

uh yeah. Just go in there, watch the first 15 minutes and well, you'll have a definitive answer. Brosnan is kicking himself right now, because he looks like a lesser Bond now.

much better movie, quality-wise than any of the brosnan movies. If you disliked the brosnan films, you'll appreciate this.

I think it would be cool if they locked the Bond franchise into Cold War era 60's - they could still do the gadgets and whatnot, but it would be like a parallel universe. Anytime they get all computer age, it wrecks the cool/sexy of the films.

Seems like the Bond character doesn't fit into the modern era.

Very good point.

Exactly. Last I heard they were still going to work up another Indy Jones, only age him accordingly with Harrison Ford's old ass. They would set it during the Cold War.

This is a franchise that could be revived, too. I say get Christian Bale. Maybe a little too humorless.

I'd love for them to revive the Jones saga, but i dont think christian bale has it in his to have the Jones attitude. Either way i'd watch it.

Just got back from seeing this. It was alright. Really awesome sequence at the beginning.

I wasn't all that impressed with the opening credits animation, though, and the song they used (Chris Cornell, I guess?) was pretty bad.

In true Bond form, I have to say that Eva Green is unbelievably gorgeous.

that's what Tarantino wanted to do when he was chasing the rights to make the new film. He wanted to do a period piece and flip the script completely.

Come on. Goldeneye was awesome. And it spawned the best first person shooter game of all time.

I'm pretty sure i had a friend that said that exact line today, but yeah, post-Goldeneye was a very sad state of affairs for the bond saga.
