Okay, so how is it possible for me to have lived 27 years and not have been listening to this album every single moment? It's not that I hadn't heard these songs before, but for some reason I just never bought the album and listened to it all the way through.

Obviously I'm being overly dramatic, but seriously this album has been in near constant rotation ever since I bought it a few weeks ago. The songwriting is just so superb on this album, and it's so well played that I don't even mind overlooking the few "bad lyrics" spots such as "he'd like to come and meet us but he thinks he'd blow our minds" (blecch). Plus I heard that he only did one take for the vocals, which is amazing given the lack of pro tools!

I guess I just wanted to highlight this as an interesting "discovery" for me because it's not like I unearthed some really obscure album, this is David Bowie we're talking about -- the whole time it's been right there, in front of my face, but for some reason it took me such a long time to realize its greatness.

Now I have a lot of Bowie's albums in my BMG queue. What other albums am I missing out on? :D

Whoa...interesting that you mention this album cuz I've been meaning to buy it for some time now. I was in Amoeba yesterday and completely forgot to add it to my purchases.

Thanks for the reminder!

I wore the f- out of this album when I found it in college. Then I saw a great local band cover it straight through, in costume no less, right at the peak of my love for it. Friggin awesome.

Still holds up - just an amazing piece of work.

i had almost the exact same experience with this record two years ago; i managed to not really listen to much bowie until i moved to new york, and shortly thereafter i became obsessed. it's a fun time, enjoy it.

I don't own any Bowie albums but I have a bunch in my queue on Yourmusic.com, with this album up next after 3rd Bass.

It's a thread like this that make me feel like I took all my older siblings for granted.

There was some feature in the Rolling Stone with Jon Stewart and Colber on it that was a "Where are they now" for rappers...Roxanne Shante is a doctor, and Serch is developing some kind of American Idol type thing for white rappers. Lives in the D with is wife and kids.

Hunky Dory is another good one.

Then there's Station to Station, Scary Monsters, Lodger, Low...

Anything Bowie put out in the 70s is worth a listen, really.

Yeah, the story was funny. Something about in her first shitty contract (AT 14!) they put something in about her label paying all the bills for any schooling she decided to pursue.

So, she went and got a doctorate.
