Yeah, I don't think I need to hear Jack Johnson covering The Band. The cover is awesome, it reminds me of some of the pics I took last summer on the road.

I like that MMJ version. Also like the Joe Henry, Allman Brothers, and Roseanne Cash contributions. But the rest of that tribute is ass. They turn the Band into competent, professional adult contemporary crap. Lee Ann Womack sings "The Weight" as if she thinks the lyrics are about dieting.

yeah, i really liked the joe henry cover as well. he's an artist i've always meant to check out but never did. spent the last 15 or so minutes checking out audio clips from a bunch of his albums on amazon, and i definitely dig. mental note -- i'll have to look into him a bit more when i have time....

That PFM track review made me want to listen, and this is pretty great.

I generally don't like tribute albums for bands I already like.

Tiny Voices is fantastic. Scar and Trampoline are very good too. I think you'd like JH.

Fucking quote worthy.

"It Makes No Difference" may be my favorite song by the Band. I'll be checking this out later. Thanks E.

It all makes sense now.

I was reading Magnet a couple issues ago about MMJ's Bonnaroo diary.

They mentioned that they had just recorded that song at Levon Helm's studio. I remember thinking that would be cool.

They performed it that night during their 4 hour set.

Side note: They also asked Bobby Bare Jr. to come up and sing some covers with them but he only wanted to do "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and they didn't know it.

This newfound interest in The Band is mind-boggling. I used to get made fun of for owning Band albums. Anyway, while I'm not crazy about any versions I don't mind the Gomez take nor the MMJ take. This probably won't be too high on my "to buy" list. Hopefully I'll find a used copy.

Say wha? What's not to like in the Band. Great musicians, songwriters, singers crafting the finest songs based in Americana filtered through Canada and tempered as road band for Ronnie Hawkins and backing up Bob Dylan. Pure Rock'N'Roll.

That's exactly my point. I've been listening to them for awhile, and I can remember in college even getting made fun of for listening to them.

Hey stu I just realized what you were asking.

No, I don't have an actual recording of it unfortunately.

I'm sure it's out there. They are apparently pretty cool with show taping.

You had the wrong friends in college; we used to rock out to the Band.
