This is the Fifth Annual Shmoo Poll, our annual chance to complain about how Pitchfork's rankings are collectively a pretty accurate representation of Obner. Yay!
PLEASE READ THE RULES!
Here's how it works:
Everybody ranks their top 20 (or less) albums of the year and submits them on the above website. I conduct the point scale as follows:
Ranked 1-5: 4 points
Ranked 6-10: 3 points
Ranked 11-15: 2 points
Ranked 16-20: 1 point
This way you don't have to decide an exact ranking and there isn't a huge spread of points separating albums at the top from the bottom. If you don't like it, shut up. Every year someone complains about my points system so I run it another way out of curiosity, and the results barely change.
Feel free to leave blanks. You don't need to have all 20 albums. But you cannot have a #1, a #5, and a #17 without the intervening numbers. All albums must be consecutive.
As with last year, you add the albums to the Charts function and then they will appear on the drop-down.
Double check that the album is not already there before you add a new one! Do not abbreviate artist names or album titles. If you're too lazy to do these things, maybe I'll be too lazy to run the fucking poll.
So then I rank them and we get an overall top 20. I always end up posting the entire rankings though, because people want to see where their favorite album landed if it’s not in the top 20. Probably no SAS this year, Sketch. As we get closer to the deadline I'll either decide or start a poll about whether we'll do blurbs, as well as asking someone to take charge of coordinating that (ahem, chase).
The deadline for this poll is January 15th, 2007 and 11pm Eastern Time, so you should have plenty of time. Don't submit too early if you think you're going to keep changing your mind.
Only entries submitted via the ballot site will be accepted. Entries posted in this thread will not be counted (unless also submitted via the site).
Thanks as usual to HaqDiesel for setting up the web-ballot. If you have any problems with the ballot, it’s probably because you’re computer illiterate. However, feel free to PM HaqDiesel or myself if you still can’t figure it out.
