I'm not sure when starting a new thread for your list became the trend, but I might as well hop on the band's wagon.

1. Joanna Newsom – Ys
2. Jenny Lewis With The Watson Twins – Rabbit Fur Coat
3. The Be Good Tanyas – Hello Love
4. The Grates – Gravity Won't Get You High
5. Cars Can Be Blue – All The Stuff We Do
6. Eels With Strings – Live At Town Hall
7. The Lemonheads – The Lemonheads
8. The Pipettes – We Are The Pipettes
9. Belle And Sebastian – The Life Pursuit
10. Some Girls – Crushing Love

11. Whispertown 2000 – Livin’ In A Dream
12. The Watson Twins – Southern Manners
13. Young And Sexy – Panic When You Find It
14. Guster – Ganging Up On The Sun
15. The Most Serene Republic – Phages
16. Kupek – Before The Beginning & After The End
17. Gin Blossoms – Major Lodge Victory
18. Aberfeldy – Do Whatever Turns You On
19. Cat Power – The Greatest
20. Counting Crows – New Amsterdam: Live At Heineken Music Hall

I don't seriously keep up with all the new music and new bands. I download tracks here and there of bands I read about, hear about on here, and so on but I rarely get around to listening to them until months later or buying a cd until years later.

Almost every artist on my list I already owned albums by when I bought their new one.

This is the list so far that is furthest from mine. Can't quite figure out the perspective for it. But there's something about tea and fairy tales.

I wanted to hear that new Gin Blossoms album but was afraid it wouldn't live up to my expectations.

It's just as good as their old ones, technically. They've got the pop, the choruses, the upbeatness, the summery feeling. But there's still something missing. Doesn't come close to NME or CIS.

It only really made my top 20 because I only heard 23 albums this year.

Me neither, until about two weeks ago. I can't even remember how I found out. Maybe a stray tiny review in some music mag.

I do seem to lean toward female vocals over male. But mostly, I think, I just really like poppy, catchy, singable stuff. Maybe it's just that girls are less afraid to take that route, most of the time.

Nice to see The Grates make your list. I played that album incessantly for awhile.

Harley needs to make me a mix with a song from each since the only two I've heard on his list is B&S and Y&S. :)

I didn't even catch that until now. I guess the grinning icon should have been a tip-off.

It's not that far-fetched that some people on here might have liked Gin Blossoms back in the day, though.

I've only heard maybe 23 releases from this year so it made it originally based on that alone. i.e. I liked it more than the Faux Photos or Beck.

Most of the discs in my top twenty now I enjoy, though the bottom seven did disappoint, in relation to older discs by those artists.

If an album disappoints, I don't think it should make the list. Your list should just be shorter.

I was thinking the same thing. As it is, you might as well have just posted the full list of everything you heard.

So only the ones I love love should make the list?

I mean I like the Guster, Most Serene Republic, and Cat Power. They just disappointed me in relation to their last albums. They're still albums I'll hang onto and listen to now and again.

Albums I only listened to once, didn't like, and deleted from my hard drive didn't make the list. Hence no Beck, Emily Haines, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, etc.

Actually it wasn't. I want to preserve good memories that I have of The Gin Blossoms. That Gas Giants album released a few years back nearly ruined things for me.
