Well woohoo, here it is!

Sooooo tough to do this year for me due to the abundance of good music. A Top 50 might have to be in the works, but i really can't be bothered. :)

Anyways, if you've yet to hear any of these, definitely check them out. Many of them have tunes up on a tune a day if you'd like to have a listen. If you'd like any of the albums, pm me, and i'll get them to you as soon as i can.

Dalen - Top 20 of 2006

01 helios - eingya
02 silversun pickups - carnavas
03 sunnO))) & boris - altar
04 the brother kite - waiting for the right time to be right
05 xela - the dead sea
06 darkthrone - the cult is alive
07 junior boys - so this is goodbye
08 phelan sheppard - harp's old master
09 burial - burial
10 ellen allien and apparat - orchestra of bubbles
11 cold war kids - robbers & cowards
12 greg haines - slumber tides
13 boduf songs - lion devours the sun
12 xasthur - subliminal genocide
13 johann johannsson - IBM 1401, a user's manual
14 grails - black tar prophecies 1, 2, 3
15 svarte greiner - knive
16 benoît pioulard - précis
17 tunng - comments of the inner chorus
18 the strokes - first impressions of earth
19 booka shade - movements
20 beach house - beach house

Have a Happy New Year everyone! Here's to 2007!

one of the more unique lists.

is there going to be an "a tune a day" contributors collaborative top 20?

Great list, as expected.

# 4, 11, 18 don't belong there of course, which makes it that much more interesting.

i was thinking about that, but it's overkill. i'd rather have everyone post their favs instead.

I can enjoy ambient/drone music as much as the next person in the right mood (i.e. the Sunn0)))/Boris release the ONE time I listened to it, but as your third favorite album of the year? I just don't buy it.

Hear, hear Silversun. Well played. Where did you get a physical copy of that Helios? I need to head to Amoeba. It's been FOUR months.

seeing you only listened to it one time, i'm not quite sure you were able to really absorb the power and intensity of that album. it took me many listens.

just out of curiosity, why would you question it's ranking?

I don't know, I was wasted and I didn't express my thoughts very well. I wasn't trying to call out your tastes.

Is that really something you see yourself listening to 5 years down the road?

Good luck on that Boduf Songs. I've been trying to pry it out of him for a month. Hint, hint.

Do you enjoy anything that is not obscure indie rock?

hell yes. The Sinking Belle has honestly grown to be one of my favorite pieces of music i've ever heard. and as a whole, that album is such an emotional journey for me. one of my favorite albums to listen to in the evening, and especially when i'm in a darker mood.

this album is far more timeless than the majority of cookie cutter indie rock crap that's coming out. you just have to give it a chance, and let it have it's way with you.
