C'mon, let's hear them.

Mind you, I didn't see everything but out of the small portion of releases I did see here were my favorites.

The New World
Match Point
The Matador
The Descent
V Is For Vendetta
X-Men: The Last Stand
The Devil Wears Prada
The Prestige
The Last King Of Scotland
Borat
Apocalypto
Children Of Men

For your perusal, a complete list of movies released in 2006, month by month, can be found here:

Not having The Departed on your list is kinda like not having TV on the Radio in your top 10.

I thought both were very well done.

Neither film focuses on the Why of 9/11 but more about the human spirit and what people are capable of in incredibly tragic circumstances.

United 93 was as intense a film as I've seen a while. No name actors only adds to the "realness" of it.

World Trade Center focuses on the 2 days that two firemen were trapped under the rubble in one of the towers. Nic Cage is surprisingly good and does not attempt to make his character hero-esque in the least. Oliver Stone keeps it simple and it conveys a ton of emotion.

Both were endorsed by families of the victims I believe.

Inside Man
The Departed
The Devil Wears Prada
Little Miss Sunshine
Borat
Blood Diamond
Scoop
Match Point (thought this was '05, but if not, it's on my '06)

I think The Departed is the only movie I saw in 2006.

Oh wait, I saw an illegal dvd of Borat. That was pretty good.

1. fearless (starring Jet Li - this may be my favorite Li movie of all time. it's so good. everyone should see this, not just kung fu fanatics)

2. crank (starring The Transporter - it's literally a high adrenaline movie. literally. from start to finish it's just fighting, drugging, fighting, fucking, shooting, running, and fighting)

3. if v for vendetta came out this year then it's on my list.

4. x-men 3 was some pretty sweet eye-candy.

a really weak film year, bailed out by 4 releases at the end of the year. even so, i see a lot of movies and i consider the bottom 3 on my list to be weak entries in a top 10. i will also give an unranked mention to 'an inconvenient truth.' lastly, match point has showed up 2x, but it's a 2005 release, as is brokeback.

10. little miss sunshine
9. the dead girl
8. the departed
7. letters from iwo jima
6. volver
5. pan's labyrinth
4. children of men
3. borat
2. little children
1. inland empire

xmen 3 was such a huge disappointment to me. could've been a great movie (for the genre). too bad ratner took over. it just ended up a big garbled mess. and i'm not even an xmen comic purist...

Little Miss Sunshine was the best movie I saw in 2006. Of course, it was also the only movie I saw in 2006. But still, it was good.

only in the last two weeks have i encountered people who liked it. i saw it pretty early on. it was nice to watch, but short on almost everything else i want from a movie. for instance, i felt the characters were completely unlikeable.
