but I think that God has a sick sense of humour

Quote:
In a column written for the Daily Nebraskan in September, Derek attacked seat belt laws as intrusions on individual liberties and expensive to enforce.

"It is my choice what type of safety precautions I take," he wrote.

"There seems to be a die-hard group of non-wearers out there who simply do not wish to buckle up no matter what the government does. I belong to this group."

Here's the full column he wrote

We have to cull the herd, somehow, though, and when the ending is self-perpetuating, it makes me that I don't have to feel guilty.

Obviously this article strikes at the very heart of the problems in the States these days. Nice to see people are spending their time on the issues that matter.

I think it's a conspiracy by the people who passed the seat-belt laws to prove that they are right.

He should have taken Isaac Bruce's advice, and just let go of the steering wheel and asked Jesus to spare his life. I mean, if Derek Thomas had done this, he'd be alive today, and so would this Liefer fella.

How? Seatbelt laws are not intended only to protect those who need to be wearing them, but everyone. When someone gets in an accident not wearing a seatbelt, and the DO live, who helps pay for their healthcare until they recover from their injuries? It's not just the person who chose not to wear a seatbelt - it's all of us, which is why healthcare premiums are so damned high. Think about it - some guy refused to wear a little piece of fabric and gets in an accident, lives, and then runs up hundreds of thousands of dollars of medical bills. Is that fair?
