I'm thinking of getting a new PDA since my old Handspring Visor Platinum is going to the crapper and I lost all my data. :@

And then I got to thinking, it would be great if I could get a handheld that could access the internet via WiFi so that I could take it on the road with mea easier than my laptop to surf the net from the hotel.

I don't want anything that requires a cell phone connection, a monthly service charge, or data transfer costs.

I want to be able to just connect to the internet to a wireless network. Bam.

So I did a little research on Palm, since that is all I really know about and found this reasonably priced unit.

Palm TX

I tried to load obner.org when I was at a Palm kiosk in the Boston airport yesterday but it told me the page was too large to load. wtf? I think it might have been because Logan charges $7.95 per day to surf the web on their wifi.

Does anyone else have a different handheld they use to browse? Have you had problems loading pages due to size? Is Windows CE better for browsing?

what do you mean "ass"?

With the BB, do you use T-mobile or something, or real wifi?

does that use up your minutes, or use data transfer?
What premium do you pay to have that feature?

$20 a month for unlim email and data transfer, although I haven't figured out how to use it as a Bluetooth modem. Has no affect on my minutes.

I wonder if Cingular has something similarly priced.
Thanks for all your work.

(Does that mean you spend more time looking at your PDA than your work computer from the hours of 9-5? Does your employer find that weird?)

no it doesn't mean anything close to that. It means I take a lot of dumps.

Yep, we are both web-surfing loaf-pinchers.

I've also managed to rig up my Treo so that I can take a photo, upload it to Flickr and post to my blog with text, all in one fell swoop. If the camera had better resolution, I'd be unstoppable. Still, expect me to lean heavily on this "flagged by Brentano's" technology during SXSW 2007, as I post updates throughout the proceedings (at least during broad daylight, as no flash means no pix after dark).

And as for charges, I honestly have no idea, as this phone is provided by and all bills paid by my employer. I imagine if the costs for my cell-Ob activities were exorbitant, I'd have heard from Accounting by now.

I have a Palm TX. It lets me load Obner.

I also bought a 4Gig card for it and use it as an MP3 player now & then.

It's pretty good, although lately I worry my touch screen is a little wonky.

It's fun to copy-paste articles form online into word, transfer onto the Palm and read it on the subway. It's nice to to be able to carry images on it, or make Excel docs on the road (e.g. to keep track of expenses on trips).

I'm happy I got it.
