In terms of all things music, what would you say is the best city in North America at this point?

I'm trying to decide on a vacation destination for September/October.
I can't take too much cold (own no winter clothes) but I want great music in good venues, good food, good beers, great galleries and museums, good music! A symphony even.
Anyone think Montreal? New Orleans? Chicago?

Looks beautiful,indeed, but:

Nice, but I was thinking more of a nightlife spot.

as long as there's plenty of beer and time to wonder about the power of water whilst flingin' cans off an embankment and listening to the car radio, I'm good.

Wait, I already was a teenager

Well, I was born in a small town. Got nothin' against a big town, though.

LA or NYC because more artists stop there than any other cities or New Orleans or Memphis for quality local music and music history.

Yeah, I know LA has its strong points, but I was hoping for more walkability, NYC may break the bank but it'll most undoubtedly be worth it on all fronts.

You may also want to know that Castlegar SMELLS. It's not quite as bad as a pulp mill town, but it's enough to make you wonder if the passenger in your car ate bad oysters.

DC? Kill two birds with one stone...hit up DC and Baltimore. Tons of great venues, DC certainly qualifies for museums, and Inner Harbor in Baltimore.

You know, I like the idea of basing out of DC and taking the train to Philly and even NYC for a couple of days, is this do-able?

Quite. NYC is within 4-5 hours, while Philly is probably closer to 3-3.5.

Not to mention in between you also have Harrisburg, PA.

My suggestion.

Simply for the number of bands that come through, good record stores, etc.
