Well, all but about 2 of the contestants suck ass this year. Maybe 3. But those 3 are pretty damn good. At this stage, though, when there are still a lot of stragglers around, the difference between the really good 2 or 3 and the rest is painfully obvious. I feel it for the so-so ones. They're better than most people at karaoke night, but next to Melinda and Keisha (spellings?) they look like no-talent ass clowns.

This year it's down to 2 black girls and maybe one black guy, all with unbelievably good voices, control, taste, range, and attitudes. The other kids are absolutely outgunned this year. Those two girls are astounding.

Actually, I am not watching this year. I only get ABC these days. Can't afford the luxury we call cable and Fox just doesn't come in with the "antenna".

I heard one of the black girls sing and thought it was damn good. Other than that, I don't know much else about it.

Note to self: Check obner when I get home.

LaKisha is from Flint, so at the paper we're going nuts covering her as she advances and finding out as much as we can about her even though she and her family have been effectively gagged by the show's producers.
Already making plans to send someone (possibly me, but not likely) to L.A. if she gets down to the final six.

I just saw my first full episode of American Idol on Tuesday night -- before that, I mostly just saw a few bits and pieces of the initial auditions. I can definitely see why the show is a hit, but man, most of those guys just plain sucked. The worst was that guy who did the jamiroquai song, and the other white guy later who did the hip-hop-esque song. It was like "hip hop that the whole family can enjoy!" There was just no edge in anyone's music at all. Yuck city.

But seriously, WTF is up with Paula Abdul? Clearly, she's drunk. Or hopped up on goofballs or something. Every time it was her turn to speak I cringed.

this is pissing me off that the heavyset black chick got kicked off for posing topless but the skinny white chicks GIVING BLOWJOBS AND POSING NUDE ON WW2 MEMORIALS in the pics and she gets to stay. what the shit is that about?

There's a big controversy brewing though that some of the more pornographic pics aren't actually her. That they don't really look like her at all. And that it's just some bullshit pulled by some former friends who are pissed/envious, take your pick.

I can totally see that though. People can be assholes.

And I haven't watched at all this year. Last year sucked mightily, I got sick of it halfway through. The couple years previous were pretty good though.

And, she apparently worked in a bank in Millersville, MD for a while, so we've been pushing it in our paper, too.

Saw that. Sometimes on the Idol Web site she's listed from MD, but most times on the show it's Flint. And then some TV station in Houston was covering her last night, with a story at a church they said was where she worshiped. Dunno what that's about.
But at least we've got one of the really good ones. This is going to be fun,

This show isn't really worth watching past the first couple of open audition episodes.

is it true that howard stern is leading an effort to keep sanjaya (sp?) on the show? i thought i heard something about this, and simon saying that if the kid makes it a couple more rounds that he will never do the show again.
