How does the new panda bear compare to the older panda stuff and animal collective? From this review, i'm wondering if i shouldn't've downloaded it this morning.

I think you mean, "I wonder if I should've".

And, yes, probably.

I've only heard "I'm Not" and "Comfy in Nautica" off the new one, and both are great. I think Noah comprises the warmer, more tuneful side of the AC songwriting duo, and honestly, I think he's the better half.

The last Panda Bear album was kinda minimal compared to this from what I can tell. This one seems to be fuller-sounding and more song-y (rather than chant-y and sorta ambient).

Anyway, I plan on picking this up after work today along with a few other things. After I listen to it a few times, I'll share a more solid opinion.

Just the mention of Spacemen 3 got me interested. You can hear the track "Comfy in Nautica" at his MySpace page, which also features a blog entry about a Hipinion post.

From Amazon.com re: comparing his hold stuff to Person Pitch:
Amazon.com Wrote:
"Animal Collective member Panda Bear (a.k.a. Noah Lennox) boldly returns with his long-awaited third solo record Person Pitch. Years in the making, Person Pitch marks a dramatic departure from Panda Bear's previous solo record Young Prayer. The acoustic instruments of Young Prayer have been replaced with samplers and electronics.

Fusing Panda's dramatic life changes over the past few years (marriage, moving to Lisbon, becoming a father) with his ever-increasing sonic palette (standouts include Caetano Veloso, Berlin Techno, Scott Walker, and Kylie Minogue), Person Pitch is suffused with the kind of feel good modern toe-tapping pop that seems harder and harder to find these days."

That Panda Bear record might be my favorite thing so far this year. IT's mellower but still has that circular hypnotic sort of poppiness about it.

The third song on the record blows my mind more completely each time i hear it.

I have the other PB on vinyl, and it doesn't get played much. Probably the grim subject matter to be honest though. I do, however plan on getting this if its available on emusic.

This album is great. I'd freak out over it if I hadn't heard more than half on 12"s he's released leading up. Simplistic pop dubbed out to the 9s.

if whatever song samples i hear don't disappoint, i'll queue it up for next week. too many albums already downloaded this week -- i need to devote proper time to digest their fruity goodness.

I don't think this compares very well to his older stuff, at least not his last solo album. This is one of my favorite of the year so far, though.

Its great. It certainly has a Beach Boys vibe, if the they were recorded in a bedroom or subway (transportation, not restaurant). Its also a bit more cheery.

A few more listens later and it's definitely one of my favorites of the year. Bros is amazing. Good Girl/Carrots is great as well. This is what 2006 lacked for me. Excellent albums. So far this year, I can say, I've already listened to 2 (Panda Bear & Woods).

Meanwhile, has anyone heard the record by Avey Tare and Kria Brekken? The one that's backwards.

does everybody who thought this was great still listen to it? I liked it, but felt dumb for not thinking it was all that. I gave it a 7/10, and it sounded like it was making a lot of people's best of the year.

I listen to it at least once a week, Monty.

Yep, at least once a week, maybe 2-3x now with the AC record being available and all.
