What kind do you have?

I've had my current one for a while but it's starting to act up. Occasionally the volume down button won't work and when I hit the 'Forward' button, it turns on the Random or Repeat function instead. Things like that. So I'm thinking of getting a new one.

I'm still more interested in a cd player that will play mp3 cd's than an ipod or whatever. Just because they're cheaper and I don't relish the thought of ripping every cd I own. It's just as easy for me to put a disc in my player and a couple of cd's in my bag when I'm going out.

I would appreciate a cd-mp3 player that has a decent display function. My old one displayed the song title, artist, and all that when I was listening to an mp3 cd. My current one only shows the track number which is a pain.

Sony ESP max 350.

Have it since 2000 or 2001. Hasn't quit on me yet (knock wood). I should get with the times I suppose and get me an mp3 player but like you, the tought of ripping my entire cd collection gives me the chills. I'm quite lazy.

Sony DNF430 MP3/ATRAC CD Walkman Portable Compact Disc Player with AM/FM/TV/Weather Digital Tuner

Still the best portable CD player I ever owned and it's been extremely reliable. The sound is amazing.

I have a mp3 player and I still prefer using a portable CD player. Using an mp3 player actually changes the way I listen to music because having so many choices on the player forces me to skip through 30 random tracks an hour instead of listening to a CD in its entirety. I know it's a psychological thing, but I like simply playing a physical CD all the way through.

I even bought one of those Case Logic CD wallets to carry around a batch of CDs so I can leave my jewel cases at home, although we'll see how that works out because Case Logic has a reputation of scratching CDs. Their (new?) ProSleeve material supposedly doesn't scratch, but I'll be the judge of that.

I've used one of those as long as my current discman and never had any problems with it.

Why not get a MiniDisc player? They have the 3LP mode and you can rerecord over discs. Not to mention that they are probably fairly cheap at this point. I know Finch still (or up til recently) used one. Also, if you record anything they're great for that as well.

i have this philips number (approximately this one http://www.amazon.com/Philips-AX2412-Pe ... 703&sr=1-4) that i got for $20 at circuit city that works very damn well. the one before it was a panasonic that i absolutely loved...unfortunately it took a spill off my bed one night in france and the little knob that makes the cd player think it is closed broke off and could not be found. not as happy with the one i currently own but for the price it's not bad.
