Still two days to go until the draft, but the rumors leading up to the first selection have become more interesting than the event itself sooooo.....

-I heard this morning that the Falcons have offered the Lions their 1st rounder (#8 overall) plus a 2 and a 4 this year AND a 2 and a 4 next year to move up to #2 preumably to draft Calvin Johnson.

I say go for it. We've got an extra 2 from the Schaub deal and I think an extra 4 as well; bring in a stud and a local hero.

What the hell do they need a receiver for? Mexico can't throw the ball.

I'm working a Prom set-up that day, so hopefully it is slow enough that I can be on here for every pick. Last year, the NFL Draft was when I made my mark on this board.

He can throw it about 70 yards flat footed, he just needs a bigger target because it could be going anywhere.

I won't be mad if they do that but I would really like them to beef up the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. There are a lot of D-linemen this year.

Baseless predicition for the weekend:

Teams get scared and bail on Brady Quinn and he drops out of the top 15.

Also, I think Adrian Peterson is the best player in the draft.

Also, the NFL is a genius organization.

The draft has become a HUGE event. I'm pissed I won't be in front of the tv for the first round.

I can see this--I think Quinn is all hype/no substance...so look for the Skins to trade with Cleveland to draft him.

Most talented, perhaps, but he'll be out of the league after four seasons tops, due to his fragile nature.

Really? I'm not sure he's the 10th best player in this draft but I could be wrong.

Yeah, anyone who thinks he can't throw gets their information from a sports talk host who doesn't like him. With a fucking powerhouse 6'4" posession guy who is fast as fuck and used to being the only talent on a team (i.e. he has the ego and the huevos to carry his squad) I think Vick will vastly improve.

I think that is a lot to give up though, and depending on who they had projected to go might be swayed by Derris' argument. That said, Bloor, does the Johnson rumor give creedence to your theory that they think they have a 4-5 year window to win one?

Also, Brady Quinn is too ugly to be any good.

What if those 4-5 years are MONSTER Terrell Davis-like years. Remember, he did almost nothing at Georgia, and was labelled a malcontent and malingerer. I think AP could surprise. He BAAAAAADD!

Four to five years window to get a piece of the Lombardi Trophy?

If the dog-fighting ring that Michael-Mike Vick (a/k/a Ron Mexico) was running turns out to be anything, then he might be gone for the year -- Goodell will have to suspend Vick, in light of the possible weed in the bottle/herpes infecting/dog-fighting compound (complete with rape-stands) -- & prolly gone from Atlanta for good.

But, of course, some other team will take a crack at him... Prolly Washington, Oakland, or Dallas.

the pre-coverage is huge to be sure, but every year I watch the first 3 picks before I remember how fucking LONG everything takes. It was a lot easier to watch when the bengals sucked a bag of dicks and it was over in the first few minutes for me.

No, and the following is all just off the top of my head:

I think they literally have a one year window to win mainly because of how fucking old the defense is; I honestly think (and I have zero basis for this, just an observation) that Mr. Blank and Rick McKay are gonna let Patrino build whatever team he wants to and give him some years to do it, but since there is no way, cap-wise, to flip the whole team this year, they are going to make do with what they've got while starting to bring in some players akin to Bobby's style. But for the Lawyer Milloy's, Grady Jackson's, Jon Abraham's, and even Keith Brooking's of this team--this is it.

I also agree with Monty that Vick could be in some deep shit with the league though I've also resigned myself that that barring something major, this is probably Mike's last year in the ATL. And if he gets suspended for this year, we will get to see how good a coach Patrino is because then we'll have Joey Fucking Harrington as our QB.

That being said, I'll take Calvin Johnson and Joe Horn lining up at wideout no matter who is getting them the ball if we are gonna make a one year push.

The Calvin Johnson thing, incidentally and according to Don Banks, is an order from Mr. Blank who I'm guessing is looking for a new (African American) face for his franchise; I'm guessing that Blank, The Marketing Genius already has every major Atlanta company lined up to have Calvin on billboards before Monday morning rush hour.

I will be unbelievably excited when Adam Carriker of Nebraska gets drafted in the first round, presumably between picks 11-15. He will be the first First round draft pick I have personally known or worked with, he used to be on our concert security crew with fellow NFL player Cory Ross.

I'll buy both of these statements.

Any thoughts on The Boys?

The Cowboys are suppose to take Dwayne Jarrett with the #22 pick

It's all a crap shoot anyway. Sports' fans favorite game to play is "oh man, look who they passed on/ I can't believe they took him".

I think this is a weak draft for QB's when Russell and Quinn are the two biggest. Russell could be great but he could also be the next Byron Leftwich.

Oklahoma lost their starting QB last year, teams stacked against the run, and Peterson still ran all over folks. I just think he's stud.

Bloor, I think the possibility of a suspension for Vick is very real although being "loosely" tied to Dog-gate 2007 isn't quite the same as punching a stripper in the face ala Pacman. I'm concerned that reports say the investigators were looking into Vick's involvement to begin with.

All the shit that's happened to him in the offseason, each incident by themselves isn't so bad, but it adds up. I'm sure King Arthur is fuming.

I agree about the Falcs D. We're gonna be on eggshells all season hoping Abraham's body will hold up. I'm not holding my breath.

The problem is that, barring trades, nobody in a spot to take him has anything close to a '98-02 Broncos O-line. Yeah, the Browns got a few guards in free agency, but if they don't take AP they should go with Joe Thomas. I just hope they don't give up on Frye yet. MAC Attack!!!

I HOPE NOT!!! ANY WR but him, please! I can damn near run the 40 faster than Jarrett!!!

I'm hoping for Bowe, but if he's gone, I'll settle for Ginn, Jr.

Jerry Jones is Al Davis with a better wardrobe & plastic surgery.

Of course there's a chance he'd sign Vick... Especially if Romo's descent into badness continues apace, following his field-goal hold flub.
