i still can't believe how long it took them to release this in the us and the uk. that song was a minor hit on canadian radio almost 2 years ago. they're pretty great live but their recorded stuff always kinda bored me.

I've tried to give them a listen a couple times as well, and well, always felt a little bored too. A lot of people think pretty highly of them, but I just haven't made that connection yet.

i just heard of this band, and consequently just heard the album, this past fall. i really like it a lot. the video for lost in the plot is pretty good too (and actually finding out what the lead singer looked like shocked me pretty good too!).

this is not their first release, right? how is their earlier stuff?

I'm not really sure, as I'm just hearing this song. It's on indie 103.1 here in L.A. all the time. I'm going to give this album a listen more this week. I wonder if the earlier stuff is any good.

Their ealier stuff is great.

Although I like "No Cities Left" very much, I am quite partial to their first album "End of a Hollywood Bedtime Story". It is much more raw--some might find it too raw--especially in terms of the recording, but I love it.

Their two EPs are great as well.

You really need to see them live.

The Smiths/Morrissey, Blur, Serge Gainsbourg, film music...there's a bit of 60s rock in there somewhere too, and some soul as well. Apart from that you'd just have to hear it for yourself.

i hear a lot of damon albarn in the lead singers voice. that would also explain the shock i had when i finally saw he did not match what i had envisioned in my head.

Yes, he has been called "the black Morrissey", which is pretty silly but kinda true.

K, I'm sold. Sounds like something I'd like. Thanks.

Yeah I picked up the album after reading this thread and holy crap, it blew me away.

Also, for you Angelinos, looks like they'll be doing an in-store @ Amoeba on April 1st! (I'm so ditching work early to go to this).

Seriously. NME is crazy for them--they're mentioned almost every week.

I love the really early stuff, too, like "Corduroy Boy" and "the Way The World Treats You". Corduroy Boy WREAKS of blur's best stuff.

I hope to go to the in-store, depends on how early I can leave work... the drive to Amoeba from my work will be HORRENDOUS on a Friday afternoon... so we'll see.

This makes it sounds like picking a bad band name is the equivalent of making a porno...
