Andone have THE COMPLETE STONE ROSES collection? It's better than Second Coming, and almost as good as the s/t, IMO.
"Sally Cinnamon" is probably my favorite SR song.

That record would be amazing if it didn't sound so thin.

Also, the version of "I Am The Resurrection" on this doesn't compare to the one on the S/T.

Actually I think the S/T sounds thin too. I hate the production on that record, its the only thing that keeps me from listening to it since the songs are great.

I heard somewhere that cocaine makes you like high end more.

I didn't really like The Complete Stone Roses at all.

Any chance I'd like the s/t?

Probably a better all-around collection of songs (except for truncated versions of "Resurrection" and "Fool's Gold") but less of an "album" than s/t.
The B-sides collection "Turns Into Stone" is also very good but pretty duplicitous if you have "Complete," which has got "What The World Is Waiting For," my fave SR song.
Been a while since I've listened to these guys.
Thanks PT!

Sounds like Squire, at least, has been writing. So, if there is potentially a new SR album gonna come, I have no complaints about any money grubbing.
Fucking great band.
Even the second album.

Z, i would agree with you had this reunion been formed a decade ago, but after watching the press conference, this is the real deal. this is an honest reunion...because it's finally time. listening to John comment about meeting Ian again and that it just 'clicked'...hearing Mani's enthusiasm...this is going to work, and on a large scale, not just a few dates. when this tour hits the states, i don't care where or how much it is, i'll be following the tour a few dates at least.

i'll remain optimistic. i'd love to see them, even if it's in 2012.

mani's been touring with primal scream the last few years and he doesn't seem to have lost a step.

I was a big fan back in the day but I thought they were pretty terrible live. I only saw them once so maybe I just caught a bad night but then again maybe not...

I'm hypothesizing here that they never got their financial due during the first go-'round, which in this case I can't fault them. Plus, they could easily do a 90 min. set + encores that would please most everyone attending.

the live show was never their strength. especially by '95 when they finally toured the US - they were just about done with each other. i'm not even positive Reni made it as far as the US tour that year? i just found a review of the show in philly that i caught that sums it up well:

Quote:
Stone Roses Don't Bloom At Troc
May 27, 1995|By Larry Kay

The frenzy of anticipation said to surround the Stone Roses' first American tour proved more hype than fact at the soldout Trocadero on Wednesday.

While a group of hardcore devotees - most of them young girls - danced whirling-dervish Deadhead-style, the majority of the audience seemed interested in the show more as a social than a musical event, shouting conversations throughout the set.

An impressive light show may have been an attempt to cover serious deficiencies in the Roses' performance, which dragged on for 90 minutes (five minutes less than the time the crowd waited for the group to take the stage).

The English college-radio faves specialize in dreamy pop that aspires to rock, but it just doesn't have the guts. Lead singer Ian Brown is utterly devoid of stage presence, a characteristic he emphasized Wednesday by remaining out of the spotlight at all times. As if that weren't enough, he wandered off-key whenever he sang loudly.

The rest of the band suffered through a horrid sound mix that reduced Mani's bass to a distorted rumble and drowned out everything else. Guitarist John Squire, obviously the shining star of the Roses' live shows, attacked his rhythm and lead parts with aggression. And Reni, the Roses' drummer, showed equal fire, but the sound mix on the lower end of the drums rendered his work unintelligible and undermined his contribution.

This is one of the few cases in which a band's CD exceeds the experience of its live performance.

that said, i'm 100% positive i wouldn't miss the show if it comes around here. hopefully time has been kind to them and ian has learned how to keep a tune.

You could could copy replace the venue names and that review could fit the show I saw. Mix was terrible and Ian Brown was even worse. Add to it that they'll be playing much larger venues and I'll pass. Glad to see that Squire is still playing though. I thought he was painting full time.

People are overlooking how fascinating it'll be to see Reni live. Dude is some kind of beast/human/droid mix behind a kit. And I have the tape of the Blackpool Empress Ballroom show and it's great. Don't doubt they were bad by the end, but when the moment was right...

Dale, I think we finally get to have a bro-hug, dude. This is going to be the greatest thing ever.

I just started a 2nd job last week (in addition to freelancing for Whiney soon) and ALLLLLLLL of that money will take to Manchester next June. Book it. It's happening.

Had to hit the secondary market, but I'm going to the first show, June 29 in Heaton Park in Manchester.

Sweet fancy Christ, this day...

I never was able to get much into these guys. Outside I Wanna Be Adored I always thought they were pretty mundane. I always just figured their rabid fans were more rabidly fans of taking a shit ton of pills and hanging out at the gigs than anything else.

Never hated them, but the devotion never made sense to me. I put this group on my personal list of most over-rated bands ever. And yeah, drinking beer last night found me talking to someone going on about how excited they were about their being back together.
