As in Billy Idol's quasi-punk band. I sorta grew up listening to this album, and far more Billy Idol than I should've. As a result I guess these guys aren't as known as I thought they were. Tony James now does Carbon/Silicon with Mick Jones. Billy Idol...who the fuck knows what that guy's up to.

Anyone else ever listened to these guys?

Anyway, I still have memorexes in a box somewhere with most of their songs. Highlights include "Ready Steady Go", "Your Generation" and the not-to-be-confused-with-Lita Ford song "Kiss Me Deadly"

Yeah, I used to love that first Generation X album. Best version of Lennon's "Gimme Some Truth" ever cut - plus the song "Promises Promises" was full of the sort of fancy geetar fills that punks weren't supposed to do at the time. It's all kind of funny now, given what became of Billy Idol - but not all that bad.

The second album, produced by Ian Hunter, was pretty dismal even back then.

I still have this on vinyl. And yeah, it's a pretty good record no matter what any of you say.

Completely agree.

Also love "100 Punks".

Good debut, and I liked some of the stuff off Valley of the Dolls too. I should pull them records out soon.

Whose album has no surprises on it at all but I like it anyway.

I was a huge Clash fan and even really liked Big Audio Dynamite, so was really looking forward to this carbon Silicon thing and totally expecting to like it. But, damn does it suck bad from what I've heard. Maybe I only heard the crappy songs, but I was deeply troubled by how fall the mighty had fallen when I heard a bit of this.

It basically sounds like polite BAD, with good lyrics and not a whole lot that sticks at first.

I like it, but it's nothing any different than listening to Mick circa 1989.

Not so much sucky, but just very uninspired and derivative in my opinion. I don't have the album but saw them live at SXSW. I think in general it's a mistake to set up expectations given the previous incarnations/output of these guys.

btw, thanks for the thread Cotton... it's inspired me to go look for a few albums from the same time era.

Yup, I dig em. You saying people didn't know who they were surprises me though.
