Sweet Jebus, this thing is kicking my butt around the block. Feels like I've been waiting for some group of knobs to hit on this sound all my life - a supercharged, over-amped, chaotic modern mess of '50s rock and roll. Not sure if it'll have legs, but for this week it's the best thing I've heard in '08.

punk rock blues Wrote:
The Jim Jones Revue eponymous debut album is released by Punk Rock Blues Records on Monday 8 September 2008. Described as sounding like a car crash between Little Richard and The MC5, The 'Revue play supercharged rock'n'roll inspired by The Killer, The Georgia Peach and of course The Memphis Flash and the deranged sons of Detroit.

The Jim Jones Revue strip rock'n'roll back to its essential elements and this album is a document of their base alchemy. Recorded live (no overdubs!) on four track in one straight 48 hour session the record is a celebration of no holds barred full on rocking.

Among an album of hard rocking delights, key tracks to dip into are "Rock'n'Roll Psychosis" which sounds like a unholy jam between Jerry Lee Lewis and The Birthday Party. The 'Revue then pay homage to The Killer on another key track "Meat Man". JJR piano player Elliot Mortimer adds his psychotic interpretation of boogie woogie to Jim Jones's leery vocal to create a pornographic maelstrom. More carnal bump and grind with "Cement Mixer" the final track of the album. For this The 'Revue step back in speed but increase the power with Mortimer unleashing a hurricane of Hammond keys while Jones intones "Here we go, nice and slow........" A soundtrack for a filthy liaison in a Latin seaport when your boat has already left.......

I'm sure they'd be a killer live act. Looks like they played a gig with Black Diamond Heavies and Scott H. Biram. That's a well-fitting bill.

Snagging this now. Sounds like a HOCK MOVGERG!

This is one of those bands that reminds me that there is still good music being made and then I spend hours trying to find other new albums I might have missed or ignored only to be disappointed.

there's still a ton of awesome music being made right now. maybe you can't find the albums to download on the internet, but that just means you should come out more often and i think you'll see what you've been missing.

I'm not big on metal in general. There's plenty of groups I like, new and old, but overall it's not really the genre I immediately reach for. I've got most of the other genres covered, I think. Don't get me wrong (anyone)...there is lots of new music I like and I could easily put together a top 20 for this year if I tried, but there's a big gap in the percentage of older music I like and new music I like.

not every show is metal. there's always a ton of other stuff going on.
a lot of it is metal. but not all. oh yeah, jucifer is probably going to play a show at nara in january by the way. i'm not big on female vocals in heavy music though. i like it as brutal as possible, a la burning witch.

this band sounds great by the way.

I definitely want to hear this. If I listen to it, I won't be brainwashed into drinking Kool-Aid, will I?

Yeah, great album. Will almost definitely make my top 5 this year. It's one of those high energy albums that just gets you moving when you need a kick in the pants.

I listened to it all the way through for the first time this afternoon and while I like it, it seemed samey after a few songs.

AMGAL means "anal sex", or does it mean "amyl nitrate"? Some combination of each?

Also, glad to see it has been confirmed by e-stone that Danny Don't Rapp is the former Verbal Intercouse/Blue Milk.

Oh, that was always the assumption. I think Dalen nailed it after post no. 3 from you. But I had never seen it declared so plainly as when e-stone's half-jokingly insinuated a recoupling of you & cem-polk.

I think I downloaded JJR but haven't played it yet. I'm wondering if I'm gonna hate it, the things have been lately ;).

Anyone have the actual CD. I like this a lot, but I'm wondering if the CD would have any better sound than the MP3s floating around that pretty much sound like ass. I'd pick one up myself, but so far I've only see it available on import for pretty high prices.

Oh, and I'm not asking for some over-produced to shit slick as slime sorta deal. Just keep it simple and don't crank the meters all over the place so it comes out like a big distorted mess.

Sounds best if you just crank the shit out of it.
