It appears that this fest is aptly named.

I don't know. I will have much fun. I think a lot of people who don't spend a lot of time listening to/seeing harsh noise/power electronics/loop study type music realize how much fun it is. There is a certain amount of theatrics involved for lack of a better term when a lot of these artists perform. It really is a good time (check some of the videos of Incapacitants performing a few years ago). Everyone is smiling, enjoying themselves, I can't remember the last time I went to a "standard rock" show that wasn't a bunch of people standing around nodding their heads looking very serious, very concerned about "cool". So it will likely be a lot of fun.

In addition, it's very cool to see how things are wired in strange ways, to see gear that you won't likely see anywhere else. I mean you listen to the records and there are all these noises and tones that don't make sense, and then you see it live and understand how it is pulled off and get that human part with the machine noise and it's an awesome thing. At least to me anyways.

Oh. Sorry. I was just trying my hand at being an ass. I have nothing official against this fest, the bands, or the attendees. Does this counteract my assholery?

I'd go for Sonic Youth, the only one I've heard of.

Sandwiched between Bastard Noise and Grey Wolves, hell yes. That is a ridiculous way to start the three days.

I'll be honest, I probably wouldn't walk across the street to see this concert for free.

I have a feeling that Sonic Youth isn't going to be playing what any of you (kochalka aside) want them to play.

I like them well enough from what little I've heard of them. I have a hard time picturing them live though. I don't know how that spacey groove they have is going to come across on a day filled with absolute monsters. I would like to see them right before Bardo Pond maybe. Instead it looks like they are right before Yellow Tears (the highlight of that day for me, these guys will likely leave the NYC block in rubble when they are done) which means no matter how good they are, they will likely be outdone by the very next band.

Yep, quite looking forward to those three. Hoping Merzbow performs with Sonic Youth the day before as well.

Yeah, I'd imagine they put on a different sort of show for this type of thing, but they are following Bardo Pond so they may just play some of their noisier, drone-y-er songs and indulge their "jammier" side a little.

There are several acts here that I'd like to see, but I've never been sure if I could endure a festival full of this sort of thing. (I'm not much for festivals in general.) I also don't know many of these other than Merzbow, Thrones, and Peter Rehberg/Marcus Schmickler, but there are several I had been intending to hear for a while. Who knows, I was planning to go to New York this spring, anyway...

I'm not big on full day festivals, that's why I like this. I have the day to get out and see the city since I've never been, and at night I get to see all the bands that are never going to come play Tucson (though going by myself is a bit of a bummer as my girl's response was exactly the same as Hegel's). I really think you would like some of Giffoni's stuff (noisy as hell but still wonderfully psychadelic loops), Axolotl (destroyed violin drones meet power electronics, similar to Burning Star Core), and possibly Pedestrian Deposit (just basing that on knowing you kind of dig some Prurient). I think I have stuff from almost all of the artists playing so if there's anything you want to check out, let me know and I'll send it your way.

I'd much rather go to shows alone than with people who aren't going to be into it or only have a passing interest in the music.

If this was a month earlier, I'd be right there with you. Unfortunately, it seems like everything is happening in May, which is when grad school starts up for me.

Was wondering if you were going to head up for this. I'm sure at least a few of them will be playing Baltimore before or after though.
