As discussed in the Random thread, who are some bands who you think you'd like, but their stupid names keep you from checking them out adequately.

The first ones that come to mind for me are:
Gnarls Barkley
Gorillaz

i'd even heard ladyhawk is good but yet i still have stayed away subconsciously because it sounds like a retarded pop-punk band like atreyu or something.

What about Ladyhawke?

There are soooo many of these for me. Pretty much anything with Crystal, Wolf (except Wolf Eyes), Aids or Kids in the name. I'm also irked by bands who chose to have their names in ALL CAPS, such as HEALTH or YACHT or all small caps if one of those exists (godspeed you! black emperor excluded).

wait. those are different? that's bad.

i always wondered about that--like how movies come in pairs (volcano-, meteor-, etc)--the similarly named bands always seem to get hype in packs (wolf-, black-, etc).

Ladyhawke is a retro-pop chick

She has some pretty good pop songs

Ladyhawk is a decent indie band (neil young/dino jr inspired side of indie)

Agreed, but there are some that have made me consciously avoid bands.

Seriously? "Most" covers quite a lot of ground.

*Oh, a palindrome! & it's music related! I will never be putting this on my hi-fi set.
**From outstaters who prolly hate Black Rebel Motorcycle Club as "poseurs" & MOR. The only thing I hate more than the city hipsters in my town are the kids who move here to go to UWM (for three semesters) or some other campus. They hate Milwaukee even more than the native sceneastas, but they still come. Can't wait 'til they go back to Omro & Fairwater & Antigo & Rhinelander to settle up & spawn.
***Chris Hansen should have gotten to Rev. Norb by now.
****What does this even mean? From Les Paul to BoDeans -- Waukesha, you're doing it wrong.
*****Seeing as My Nemesis used to play in this band, & that he resembles the lead singer of My Chemical Romance, the name actually fits. Still dumb. They aren't so much "goth", as Gothic -- like the painting -- & while the use of "party" could be in the sense of the Donners, the only acceptable party in music is how Andrew W.K. does it. So, FAIL.
******So desperate, they rigged the "Cage Match" on the old New Rock 102.1. Also FAIL.
#Actually like this band. Initially reticent to them, but after seeing they actually know how to party right, I was sold. Nor can I hate on The Jenny Jones Show's house-band.
@The Senator would prolly offer this as truth in advertising, but I disagree. Good band, though declined fairly quickly. Horrible name, all the same.

... Basically, any band from 'Sconny, save Violent Femmes (horrible people, of course) & Citizen King. Bon Iver isn't bad, either -- but more soloist than band, no?

& best of all, but honourable mention since they're a covers project -- BEATALLICA.
